The Ship Batu Ferringhi Penang

The other day in Penang, Janice and I happened to be at Batu Ferringhi en route to our stay at Hard Rock Hotel when we decided to crash at The Ship for a quick lunch. I've been to the ones in KL, and have a pretty good idea what The Ship has to offer. The unique thing about The Ship in Penang was the fact that the restaurant was housed in this rather huge ship unlike its other outlets in Malaysia.

The Ship Batu Ferringhi Penang
A huge Open sign welcomed us to The Ship that fine day

Upon entering The Ship, I was pretty impressed with the decor and effort put in place to make it look like we are entering a "real" ship with the wooden settings, and round windows. It was just pass Christmas hence the Christmas decorations were still up.

The Ship Penang Restaurant Menu

As expected, there weren't many customers dining in that time as people usually come to The Ship for dinner and not lunch. I felt it was rather special as we had the whole restaurant deck to ourselves. It was like reserving a whole ship for our romantic lunch, I thought to myself then. Anyway check out what we ordered that afternoon.

Tenderloin Sizzling Steak Served Medium Rare

Now I do have to comment on their Tenderloin Sizzling Steak. The taste is good and really tender, but I was pretty surprised at the way they flooded the whole plate with the sauce. It was stated gravy and garlic butter, but to me I don't really like the fact that it totally drowned the flavour of the steak. Probably I would try the Charboiled Sirloin Steak next time.

#4 The Ship's Banana Split - RM8.90++

The Sizzling Chicken Fillet was okay, but same comment on the gravy which was a bit too much. Our dessert, the banana split was really good though, at least to me as I just love bananas. I'm the one to order the chocolate banana milkshake whenever I see it on any restaurant's menu.

The waiter and waitress were trainees though, and couldn't really comprehend exactly what I wanted. Overall, it was a good dining experience especially on the ambiance, one that could have been better if I had ordered the right steak set. I would think coming to The Ship Batu Ferringhi Penang should be reserved for dinners or those special occasions as the settings are really unique.
