I was given RM50 the other day by my mother in law. Normally that would be cause for excitement right? I mean, it's free money! Not this time. When she handed me the RM50 note, her parting words were "I cannot use this note, pls send it back to the bank". Bank? What bank? When I looked down on the note, then I understood what she meant. My unusable RM50 I've read that it is possible to return torn notes back to our national bank if the majority of the note is still visible, but until now I could not find the time to send it back yet. My brother just got himself a spanking new watch yesterday when we were at Queensbay Mall Penang. Well, he needed a watch since like for years, and since I was around, I helped him choose one. The model he took was from Casio, and the main reason I chose this for him was because it had quite a hefty discount. Probably because it's not of the latest range? The model is EF 305D Edifice Retrograde series and we bought it from Jusco Queensbay Mall. Have a look below. Edifice Range with multiple dials What striked me as interesting about this watch was that it had multiple dials on its faceplate, one for the date, one for the day and another showing 24 houred time. It's a no frills watch with no extra bells and whistles, but I have to appreciate that the needle display is luminous and glows in the dark, and it's water resistant up to 10 bars. That was the day I went from being "surviving financially" to "broke financially". The story was, I needed some new clothes for my wedding, work, etc, and the last time I actually went clothes shopping was like a hundred years ago. One fine weekend, I went with my future wife to Sungai Wang Plaza to do exactly that, clothes shopping. The Orlando shop was located in Sungai Wang, a quiet little unassuming shop. Little did I know this shop was going to take hundreds of my hard earned cash. Ouch. Orlando Boutique at Sungai Wang Plaza I was impressed with the quality of the shirts. The price wasn't very cheap but that's what you get for quality, I suppose. Well, one thing led to another, and I ended up forking out close to RM660 for everything. Mind you, this figure was after discounts. And to think I just wanted to get 1 or 2 clothes for myself. Just back from the Star Education Fair at KLCC yesterday, I was dragged by my gf out again. This time it was to do some PC gadgets shopping for her company event. These gadgets were meant to be prizes for the her lucky colleagues. Asashi Technology just opened up a branch at Wangsa Walk Mall a few months back , and I found the prices there to be quite competitive, hence we went there last night to get those gadgets. Most students taking up degree courses in Malaysia would most likely take up this government loan. Yours truly is no different from "most students". With this loan, I didn't have to burden my parents to pay for my university educational fees. Back in 1999, when I first entered pre-university in Multimedia University (MMU), PTPTN offered me this loan. The terms were RM66000 for the whole duration of my course, with repayment of rm396 for 25 years after course completion at an interest rate of 4% per annum. In 1999, 4% interest charged was a very good deal as bank's fixed deposits were giving 9 - 10% interests rates. Current 2010 bank's fixed deposit rates are at 3-4%, and PTPTN came up with a new interest rate of 1%, which is good in my opinion.
