Did You Know?

23% and 6% of Malaysian children below the age of five are stunted and overweight respectively. Now this is rather alarming, considering that our country, Malaysia alone recorded a 13.3% obesity and 38.5% overweight prevalence in 2017 study, the worst in ASEAN. What causes these? Improper eating habits, with an increase in fat and sugar intake for one.

We, as parents cannot take this lightly and should take it upon ourselves to teach our kids about healthy eating. Eat right, to play right, that’s the idea right there! Zurich Malaysia promotes healthy competition among kids whilst having some really interesting game booths for the kids to play and learn at the same time.

Games Station

Now while the majority of the kids were competing at the football field, we went ahead to check out the Zurich Games station, where they have multiple games booth for kids to experience. Each kid got themselves a card to be filled up after completion of each game. Each stamp were obtained after playing the game, and listening to some teachings from the staff there on nutrition and food.

Let’s Make Some Egg Sandwiches!

While the kids were there, we took the opportunity to join in the sandwich making activity as well. Zurich Malaysia also engaged Sodexo, a food services and facilities management Company to share their expertise in providing easy-to- follow balanced meal preparations for the benefit of participating kids and their parents.

Both Martin and Karlson totally enjoyed the experience, where they were guided, hands on to make their very own egg sandwiches complete with fresh lettuce, tomatoes slices and cucumbers. Chefs were there too at the ERTPR Youth Cup to guide and share their experience and knowledge on healthy food.

Mr Stephen Clark, Zurich Malaysia's Country Head said that through the ERTPR Youth Cup, they hope to promote sportsmanship and to teach the kids and parents that eating healthy is neither difficult nor expensive. This initiative aligns with Zurich Malaysia's purpose to help Malaysians protect their loved ones as well as give us handles to enhance our lifestyle.
