Grabbing a Happy Meal from McDonald’s nowadays doesn’t necessarily mean getting the toy only. Instead, we can opt for some pretty cool hardback books for the kids! I’ve been waiting for this for a while now, a way to in hone the reading habits of Martin and Karlson while having fun at the same time! McDonald’s has partnered with Cressida Cowell, world-renowned author of the bestselling ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ books. Cowell has written an exclusive series of 12 hardback books for McDonald’s that will not be available anywhere else in retail.

I was at the launch of the Happy Meal Readers Programme, and it was an eye opener indeed. Throughout 2019, McDonald’s will be releasing one book every month. Families have the option to choose a book or a toy with every Happy Meal purchased.

Inculcating the culture of reading among Malaysians from a young age is the objective, and I feel it is a real good one. I totally got 2 of these books back for the kids. Check out our experience reading it, as well as exploring the digital versions of the books made available through the Happy Studio App.

12 books are in the works, one for each month. A little back information on the books are in order. Treetop Twins Adventures by Cressida Cowell, that’s the title of the series. The Treetop Twins – Alfie and Asha, and Tulip and Ted – are the luckiest twins in the world. Their parents, Professor Penelope Treetop and Professor Pablo Treetop, have built a time machine, and they are the first family EVER to go back in time to study the age of the dinosaurs. Share with them in their adventures of a lifetime!

To make the reading experience more fun, digital versions of the books are also made available through the Happy Studio app that can be downloaded on both the Google Play Store and Apple Store. I immediately downloaded the app, which comprised of various fun activities for the kids inside it, on top of the digital versions of the books. Using the app, we could read along with the story and bring the book illustrations to life! Fun times indeed.

Be A Musician, An Inventor, or just Play With The Digital Masks!
On top of reading the books in its digital form, we really made full use of the Happy Studio App. From various features, we could play with musical instruments, do some interesting activities like creating platforms and more. I totally love the digital masks too, using the front camera, we could get these cute and colourful masks mirrored unto our digital self! The kids loved it.

It’s important for me and my kids to bond well, especially over the weekends as we are so busy during the weekday with work and all. McDonald’s help us to achieve this with its latest Happy Meal Readers Programme. Cultivating reading habit and family time with my children have never been more fun or easier with the Happy Studio App, combined with the books.

Good! Good! Start them young! A very good habit but unfortunately, many parents do not have the time to read with the young ones, too busy with their smartphones...and the young ones likewise. Real sad!
