Chinese New Year Set Menu @ Ee Chinese Cuisine, Eastin Hotel Kuala Lumpur
The year of the Pig is upon us, and what better way to usher it in than a feast of yummy Chinese cuisine. I was over at Eastin Hotel Kuala Lumpur the other day to savour their Chinese New Year Festive Set Menus. They offer up to seven different set menus, so there’s one for everyone to choose depending on the pricing. Check out what we had that day.

|Let's toss the Yee Sang for prosperity, good fortune and happiness!|
Let the tossing of Yee Sang begin!
It’s CNY, so let’s kick off our dinner with the tossing of the customary Yee Sang. Here’s to prosperity, happiness and loads of good fortune. There’s a wide choice of yee sang to choose from, silver fish, salmon, abalone, and even live Australian lobster! Priced from RM78 onwards, we tried the Prosperous Salmon Yee Sang. Amidst shouts of “Huat ah!”, it was definitely an auspicious start to a good night out with good food.

Steamed Giant Grouper
For fish lovers, the Steamed Giant Grouper is a must. Lovely, it’s steamed to perfection without being overcooked, soft flesh and all. Served with beancurd skin and cordyceps in the soup, we literally finished off the fish together with the superior soy sauce.

Baked River Prawns
More seafood delights came in the form of the Baked River Prawn. Generous servings of the prawns were to be found on the platter, doused in spicy homemade chilli and ginger sauce. Good stuff, and the fact that the prawns weren’t too small made even better.

Smoked Sesame Chicken
Smoked, not braised nor deep fried. Surprisingly, I love the flavours of the Smoked Sesame Chicken, crispy on the outside, moist and juicy meat to savour. I was told the chicken is air dried, roasted then bathed in hot oil before being smoked with a mixture of Pu Er Tea, sugar and rice grains. What a unique combination and the results were exceptionally tasty.

Another unique to me dish, the Braised Chinese Cabbage with crabmeat and dried scallops. But then again, this is a classic Cantonese vegetable dish. The whole dish had a rather large braised chinese cabbage in the middle. The crabmeat and dried scallops added lots of flavour to the offering.

Fried rice anyone? I love the fact that the Fried Rice came with huge king prawns laid on top, served with homemade Shacha sauce. It is a savoury dish, with a slight spiciness to it.

We had the Double Boiled Hasma with Osmanthus and red dates as dessert, paired with a sweet duet of homemade nian gao and macadamia puffs. With prices starting from RM2088 nett per table of 10 persons and RM788 nett per table of 4 persons, have you made your reservations for this year’s CNY reunion dinner yet?
