Mid Autumn Celebration - Festive Menu & Mooncakes @ Grand Harbour

Mid Autumn Celebrations, or in the Malaysian Chinese community we sometimes refer it as the Mooncake festivals. Be sure to try out all the mooncakes offered this festival. Just recently I was over at Grand Harbour to savour their festive menu and mooncakes as well, with Executive Chef Chan at the helm. Read on to see what we tried that day!

Signature & Seasonal Menu

We started our feast at Grand Harbour with the specially prepared Braised Crab Meat Thick Soup with Assorted Dried Seafood and Crab Roe. Luxury in a dish, the piping bowl of hot soup is filled with an assortment of flavours thanks to the ingredients used.

Up next, this was a unique dish, the Wok Fried Giant Grouper in Hong Kong Fishing Village Style. I’m used to giant groupers steamed, but this time around each bite sized piece is deep fried till a golden brown crisp, with lots of fragrant chopped garlic inside. Tastes good though.

More seafood dishes were brought out, and if you’re a prawn lover, you’ll love the Poached Ming Prawn with Chinese Yellow Wine. The fresh prawns were poached in front of our eyes, over flaming fire, together with Chinese wine. You know how the wine brings out the flavour of the broth? It basically did that, coupled with the fresh taste of the prawn, we couldn’t get enough of this.

The Braised Homemade Bean Curd with Fish Lips and Mushroom in Abalone Sauce is another flavourful, tasty dish. Lots of mushrooms were in the mix, and the bean curd were really smooth.

For our poultry dish we had the Steamed Chicken with Lotus Seed and Garlic in Lotus Leaf. If you’re a fan of steamed chicken, this will be right up your alley. Specially priced at RM120 for Grand Harbour’s Mid Autumn promotion, each piece of chicken morsel is wrapped in lotus leaf, left to simmer for hours on end for that extra fragrant end.

Such a sinful dish, we had the Braised Spare Ribs with Chestnut & Fried Onion next. It is indeed a rather hearty dish, complete with lots of fats and all, but we knew we wanted more of it the moment we took a bite. I couldn’t stop!

The chef prepared their special Fried Rice with Eel and Black Pepper to end the feasting. Unlike your usual fried rice dish, here you have lots and lots of cubes of eel in the mix, giving out an extraordinary flavour.

Bring out the Mooncakes!

Yes, one of the highlights that night would be Grand Harbour’s mooncakes! The packaging design this year was unique too, where they came packed in either the contemporary square box, or the unique 3 tier hexagon corporate gift box.

Two new flavours are introduced this year, namely the Golden Zest and Fruit Diet. Both are less sweet, yet have a distinct taste to it. I like how the slight tanginess of lime flavours make the Golden Zest so much refreshing than your usual lotus paste mooncakes.

  1. I like how authentic the dishes are, so appropriate for a Chinese festival. Mooncakes are cheap, I've seen some from over at your side on sale here - nothing less than RM20.
