Located in Plaza Damas, at block B to be exact, Don’s Warong wasn’t hard to locate. It was packed with diners when we were there, a testament of their delicious food. In fact, while I was snapping my photos at my dishes, the lady on the next table actually came over and recommended some of her favourites! This is something you don’t see all the time.

Mee Rebus Johor

We kicked off our meal with one the Don’s Warong signature, the Mee Rebus Johor. Served in a rather modest setting, the gravy was really thick. Flavourful, we had the usuals, hard boiled eggs, bean sprouts, tauhu, some special meat slices, and my favourite crushed crackers. All these make up an appetizing noodle dish. This comfort food are enjoyed by Johorians, and now we get to savour it here!

Tauhu Telur Spesial

Now this is a rather unique dish, at least for me. Don’s Warong served up this circular shaped Tauhu Telur Special, which is a mix of tofu and egg, deep fried with some fillings inside. I got to know this is a popular traditional street dish in Indonesia. Inside, we had carrots, cucumbers and bean spouts. I found the taste a tad mild, but it did have a lot of ‘eggy’ flavour. Take note this dish is only available from 3pm-7pm.

Don's Warong Sup Tulang

A combination of spices, beef bones and meat, potatoes, carrots, cabbage and spring onions, you must try out Don’s Warong Sup Tulang. Tasty soup, it did have a mild pepper hint, but the overall taste is great! They have fried garlic and spicy sambal kick cili paid on the side for that extra Malaysian “kick”.

The Don

Ah, some honest to goodness Western burger flavour is on the menu as well. We tried out The Don, a rather huge burger consisting of 1/4 pound beef patty served with buttered buns and special sauce. Topped with beef bacon slices, fried egg, lettuce, tomato and onion rings, this was my favourite dish that night. The beef patty is just too juicy and delicious! Loving it.

Dessert, yes please

After a heavy meal, its good to have ice cold Ice Kacang Johor. Refreshing, and rather sweet, the ice kacang dessert was a good end to a great meal out at Don’s Warong. We enjoyed our meal with a good cup of Kopi Muar with Ice Cream as well.

Now here's one really appetizing all-Malaysian breakfast with a twist. Introducing Don's Warong Nasi Lemak Kukus Johor with Soft Shell Crab. Yes, you read that right, Soft Shell Crabs! We had the piping hot nasi kukus with spicy sambal, peanuts, half a hard boiled egg, and my favourite soft shell crabs. Good stuff!

Don’s Warong serve up a good mix of breakfast dishes as well, where we got to try out the Kacang Pol. This Kacang Pol recipe served with bread originates from Johor, where the gravy is really thick, mixed with loads of grounded nuts. Perfect for breakfast.
