Cetaphil Baby Experience Workshop 2016

Cetaphil Baby Experience Workshop

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to attend Cetaphil's Baby Experience Workshop over at Talent Lounge, Damansara Perdana. Tagging the wife along, we arrived at the workshop with an open mind, all set to learn about the importance of caring for our child's skin, ensuring the delicate baby skin is well taken care of. It was an interesting workshop, so do read on below on what we experienced and learnt during the session.

A brief overview on the Cetaphil Baby Experience Workshop is in order. The objective for this campaign is to further educate parents like us and parents-to-be on specific baby care skills especially on the bathing techniques, baby bonding and baby skincare. Built around the fact that new parents often get conflicting advice which is quite true on baby care due to the inconsistent information available online and through family member. Myths were squashed, and facts re-iterated for us parents.

The workshop that morning consists of the Cetaphil Baby's online contest ("Why a Mother's Loving Touch is Important") winners as well as fellow parenting bloggers. The baby workshop itself had fellow speakers guiding us on a couple of activities from learning how to wash babies, to a talk by Dr. Mazlin Bt Mohd Baseri who is a Dermalogist at KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital. She shared with us the common skin disorders in babies.

Dr. Mazlin explained, "As information becomes more easily available and shareable online, parents these days have to be extra mindful in identifying credible sources when it comes to their child's wellbeing. My advice to parents is to always educate and support their information with the right guidance from authorised experts".

The talk by Dr. Mazlin opened my eyes, especially when we were shown some photos of the more serious skin disorders in babies. According to the doc, baby skin is 50% thinner than adult skin and their skin is less hairy. This is the main reason as to why babies are easily susceptible to get diaper dermatitis caused by urination and atopic eczema which normally inflicts the face due to milk.

Baby skin is highly absorbent so it's critical to use fragrance-free and hypo-allergenic products and to avoid perfumes, harsh detergents and dyes, which can easily irritate newborn skin. Hence, it's of utmost importance to obtain the correct products for our kids.

Cetaphil Baby itself is a rather young product in the market, being launched last year. Janice Ong, Cetaphil's Product Manager shared with us that Cetaphil has further immersed themselves in baby care topics and studies to slowly understand the needs of their consumers i.e. babies and parents alike. Providing the safest and most effective products are what Cetaphil is looking to.

How to Bathe Your Baby?

In the workshop, we had this really fun activity as well. Ms Lim Li Li who has 12 years experience in nursing educated us on the correct way to bathe a baby. What made it really interesting was the fact we had these cute baby dolls which we could literally put into the small bath tub and bathe it. Janice, the wife had a fun time.

Ms Lim Li Li reminded us that safety comes first and always be with our baby. The water temperature must be around 32 till 38°C and the water level around 1 to 2 inches and the maximum is the waist level. Also, it's important to ensure the room temperature is not too cold and all equipment are at reach. Even the daddies had fun at the workshop.

For bathing the "baby", we were provided with Cetaphil Baby Ultra Moisturising Bath & Wash. The baby bath tub was filled with water, and all present had fun bathing the baby. Of course, we know after a good bathe, the baby would do well to get a massage from us. Massage you say? Yes, that was the next part of the workshop, learning how to give baby massages.

We were treated to a baby massage demo session by Ms Corina Lau, a practising nurse for 7 years. Massaging a baby is pretty important, at least that's what I picked up from the session. It gives us more confidence in handling our baby and recognizing their needs as well. Bonding session anyone?

To massage the baby, we used the Cetaphil Baby Daily Lotion, moving our hands starting from the baby's upper arm to the wrist. Roll the upper arm gently between the hands and gently jiggle to release. The baby will love it!

It was an awesome experience attending Cetaphil's first Baby Experience Workshop. Meeting fellow minded parents and learning how to give good care for our babies is really cool. Learning how to use the right products and method to protect our baby from skin diseases and rashes is important. Looking forward to the next event organized by Cetaphil Baby.
