KetchUp's Blogger Speed Run - 6 Cafe Hopping in Subang Jaya /USJ Selangor

Cafe hopping has become a trend nowadays, with groups of friends going from one cafe to another in a day, or over the weekend. This time around, under KetchUp, we had a Blogger Speed Run event over the past weekend. It brought me to the township of Subang Jaya, hopping a total of six cafes, bonding with the owners, and best of all having an awesome time with fellow bloggers over great food. Check out below on what transpired that day.

We kicked off early in the morning, visiting a total of 6 cafes, starting with the first Ahoy Cafe, to Hype Concept Cafe, Aboong Cafe, Big Mike Cafe, Meteora Cafe and Flingstone Cafe. Yes, you can imagine at the end of the run how full my stomach was. Let's go ahead then with the first cafe we went to, Ahoy Cafe.

Pit stop number 1 out of 6, we headed to Ahoy Cafe just as they opened up business for the day. The owner was there to greet us, giving us a brief explanation on how the cafe came about. The definition of ahoy is nautical or pirate lingo and is a term used to attract attention or say hello when boarding or aboard a boat. When you are going to board a ship and want to say hello to someone on the ship using traditional nautical lingo, this is an example of a time when you might say ahoy.

We had a total of four dishes at Ahoy Cafe, from mains to desserts and more. Shown above is their Smoked Duck Salad priced at RM12 decked with greens and honey marinated smoked duck. An interesting dish would be the Chicken Kimchi Spaghetti which has a very brief hint of kimchi, savoury and delicious.

We tried their mushroom soup as well, served with toasted garlic bread on the side. The soup was thick and flavourful with lots of visible mushrooms inside. It was a nice end to our meal there, served with the Molten Chocolate (Valrhona) Lava Cake. The chocolate literally flowed out, all hot and sweet, with ice cream on the side. I was told they used the very luxurious Valrhona chocolate to make this dish. That's that, five more cafes to hit!

Blending a handful of passion, a dash of freshness, a spoonful of social responsibility, 4 pinches of energy.... and served with a sprinkle of hype. That's their tag introduction to HYPE Concept Cafe, a cafe serving some very nice tea selections, and cakes, which we had that day.

HYPE Cafe served us with some of their unique cakes and quiche selections, from the very heavy tasting Brown Belgium Chocolate Cake, the Green Tea Red Bean cake which the ladies love, and the savoury and tasty Chicken Sausage With Leek Quiche. Not bad at all.

Iced Cube Chai (RM12.00)

One of the specialty drink at HYPE Cafe would be the Iced Cube Chai, which was served to us that day during the speed run. The iced cube chai came with a glass of warm milk, which is to be poured unto the cubes for that fragrant milky tea taste. On to the third cafe, NEXT!

Our third pit-stop brought us to a dessert type of cafe, Aboong Cafe. They serve oftserve yogurt ice cream filled in a prosperity fish shaped waffle cone. I guess the uniqueness comes in the waffle shape itself, crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. Inside the fish belly you get to choose from a myriad of filling, from red beans, custard to Nutella. The price for a regular fish waffle is RM10.00 while the large fish waffle is RM12.00

The story behind Big Mike Cafe revolves around a sailing journey of Big Mike where he fought with Kraken in the Atlantic to get the finest calamari, solves riddles with the Great King Crab in Alaska to recruit the best platters. And along the way bump into some prawns from Red Sea and finally when he anchored here; was to share his encounter of his adventures in the Big Mike Cafe. All this info can be found on the walls of the cafe. On to the food!

It was another flurry of dishes, my favourite being the Mary Had A Little Lamb dish, with grilled lamb doused in special sauce, perfect for the meat lovers. We had the Cookakukoo too, an open sandwich with fried chicken meat as well as their buffalo wings. What got me excited was the dessert served next, the cute and colourful Mini Ice Cream Burgers! Just see how pretty it is below.

Our second last cafe for the day, fifth one to be exact is slightly off the beaten path, Meteora Cafe located at USJ 9. The cafe prides itself in serving customers like their own friends and let them feel at ease like their own home. Here you get board games like Harry Potter Destination and Monopoly, where you can play with your friends while chilling at the cafe. You could also just relax and surf the net with their free wifi.

It's always nice to have Churros, as I don't often see these in most cafes. Meteora Cafe serves some really nice Aglio Olio with Beef Bacon and grilled lamb too. Interesting that they named their grilled lamb dish as Mimi Had A Little Lamb. Good food, nice ambiance, what more could you ask for. From there, we headed off to our last cafe in the Ketchup's Blogger Speed Run. Check it out below!

It was a non-halal cafe for our sixth and final pit stop. Flingstones Cafe introduced us their delectable dishes, where they offer coffee, espresso, and lots of meaty dishes. Check out what we had at their cafe that day. For this final cafe, our Malay blogger friends did not join us, as it's obviously non-halal. Their journey ended with Meteora Cafe. We continued on.

All three of their signature dishes were brought out, the Porky Fat Rice, Chu Yao Char with Angel Hair Pasta and Oink Oink Ribs. I love them all! The Porky Fat Rice is Flingstones version of nasi lemak, complete with fatty pork pieces at the side. I found the Chu Yao Char with Angel Hair Pasta delectable, not too oily, and very very tasty. The Oink Oink Ribs goes without saying, too good!
