There I was at Da Men USJ's Chinese New Year Street Market that happened over the last weekend. Now if you haven't been to the new mall yet, do check them out, as they have really put in a lot of effort to spruce it up for the Chinese New Year. Their first ever outdoor street market was held from 30th to 31st January 2016, and it was beautiful. Do check out the pictures below.

A walk through Da Men Chinese New Year Street Market 2016 |
At Da Men Chinese New Year Street Market there were more than 20 stalls selling CNY goodies, decorations, hampers, cookies, food and many more CNY related items. It wasn't exactly the largest I've seen, but for a new mall, this is pretty impressive!

Perfect for the last minute shoppers |
The 2-day outdoor street market was held on 30th and 31st January from 6-11pm along the Jalan Kewajipan entrance with a host of activities. Some of the many activities held includes Chinese Diabolo, Bin Lian (Chinese Mask Changing), drum performance, fortune telling, lion dance and Calligraphy demonstration.

Love how cute these are, made fresh in front of us at the street market |
I was only available to check the street market out on the last day's evening session, hence I missed out the lion dance performance and drum performances among others. I did manage to catch the fortune telling booth, as well as the calligraphy demonstration, some musical performances including a short night performance by the famous beat-boxer Shawn and his crew.

Oh, before I forget, at the Da Men Chinese New Year Street Market, we also got to do some charity as well. There were girls and boys going around with their trays selling cupcakes for the charity homes as well. So on top of buying CNY items, we could give back to charity and save our souls.

One of the highlights of Da Men Chinese New Year Street Market had to be their CNY Lucky spin booth. It was a free spin for any shoppers who make any purchase at any of the outlet at Da Men. We saw quite a long queue at this booth, with a chance to win some cool prizes.

There were beautiful flowers as well |
At the charity corner, a carton of Mandarin Oranges was selling for only RM12 instead of RM18. Many queued there as well to purchase some oranges, and the sales proceed will go into bringing festive cheer to selected homes in USJ.

A big thumbs up to Da Men for organizing their first ever Chinese New Year Street Market |

ReplyDeleteI have to admit that it does give me a CNY feel when i look at their deco. AHHH! must go! havent gotten the chance to go there yet T.T
ReplyDeleteI hate to sound like this, but the name of the mall sounds very China. It has the intention to just capture the chinese market here in Malaysia and I think a lot of the Chinese Malaysians would find it off throwing. On the other hand, the street market looks cool, is that a calligraphy class? Happy CNY!
