'I'm Finished With Fins' Valentine's Dinner #VDAY2015 @ The Grand Ballroom, One City

Valentine's Day this year has come and gone, nearly a month back. How did you celebrate yours? For me, I took the opportunity to catch the #VDAY2015 celebration with an overlying theme of "I'm FINished with Fin" at One City. It was to be a mass valentine's dinner, hence I did not expect much of a romantic ambiance, but more of dining for a cause with the bitch loved one.

The Mass Romantic Dinner held at Grand Ballroom, One City is held by wedding.com.my together with venue sponsor MICE@One City. A #VDAY2015 celebration with an overlying theme of "I'm FINished with Fin", this green themed celebration is in support of encouraging the exclusion of shark fins from wedding menus.

Did you know that Malaysia is globally ranked 8th for shark catchment and 4th for shark fin imports? Now this is a horrid thought, hence the efforts to eliminate shark's fin from any chinese wedding menus.

To support this special cause of encouraging people to stop eating shark fin, the #VDAY2015 celebration was held in collaboration with global savers NGO, Wildaid Shark Savers. The two day celebration kicked off on 14th February with Wedding Wonderland, a bridal expo and a Mass Romantic Dinner with 100 couples celebrating Valentine's Day together in support of this cause. The celebrations continued the next day with over 40 couples donned in their wedding suit or shark suit in a fun Shark's Saver's Challenge race.

The setting that night was rather romantic, with purple and pink lighting giving out that warm yet very difficult to photograph ambiance. Forgive me if my photos come out looking rather washed out, as the lighting proved to be very tricky to get nice pictures, also because I did not carry along my DSLR that night. We were entertained by KL Mobile DJs, Peony Romance, and a live band throughout the night. Our four course dinner ensued after a couple of performances.

We kicked off the four course dinner with some healthy yet scrumptious Caesar Salad and their very unique Roasted Pumpkin Soup. I half expected to totally not enjoy the pumpkin soup as I'm not a fan of it, but here they roasted it to a fragrant aroma, and it came out tasting rather good. Surprisingly the portions were rather large.

The food is okay, nothing much to shout about, but taken in the romantic setting it tasted rather nice. We had the Grilled Chicken Breast served with Sweet Potato Puree, Sauteed Vegetables, Mushroom Thyme Jus and Parsley Oil as mains which really filled us up. Dessert came last in the form of the Marble Cake with Mango Coulis and Berry Compote. Sweet, yet not overbearing, going well with the accompanying red wine served that night.

A rather good night out

It was a rather good night out, especially so when we know we are dining for a cause. Do remember to play your part in preventing more sharks being slaughtered for their fins. Check out the video done by Wedding.com.my and Shark Savers in conjunction with the #VDAY2015 event below!

  1. Yes! Say no to sharks' fins soup! Stop cruelty to sharks.

It's tasteless, totally dependent on the soup - all snob appeal, nothing more than that, a gross way to flaunt one's wealth, showing off, that's all it is!

    1. And weren't you one of those promoting all those CNY dinners with the offensive stuff? I would just walk out...and write a nasty review about the place. Can't give them face one, these people. Time they are taught a good lesson.
