Fu-Rin Japanese Restaurant New Menu @ Holiday Inn Kuala Lumpur Glenmarie

It was another round of Japanese cuisine galore, as I entered Fu-Rin Japanese Restaurant @ Holiday Inn Kuala Lumpur Glenmarie for the first time to try out their new menu. I was told some of the dishes were re-introduced based on popular demand. Do read on below for what we had that evening.

The fu-rin wind bells originated from a Chinese tool called a "Sentufutaku", which was hung in a bamboo forest, and was used to tell if things would be good or bad, from the direction of the wind and the sound  that it made.

The tools came from China to Japan together with Buddhism and were hung from the four corners of temple eaves and at noble houses in Japan. Then in the Kamakura period, the futaku was transformed into the fu-rin and became very popular, hence the name of this restaurant.

All right then, back to the dishes that we were fortunate enough to sample that evening, the Wasabi Beef as shown in first photo above came with thin slices of sirloin beef seared until medium well, served on a bed of salad. The beef slices goes really well with the accompanying wasabi and sesame oil dressing.

#2 Hiyashi Natto Inaniwa (Cold Japanese Flat White Noodle with Fermented Beans) - RM38
#2 Hiyashi Natto Inaniwa (Cold Japanese Flat White Noodle with Fermented Beans) - RM38

Up next was the Hiyashi Natto Inaniwa (Cold Japanese Flat White Noodle with Fermented Beans), not one of my favourite, probably due to my inclination to warm or hot noodles, and the rather unique tasting fermented beans. It is an authentic Japanese dish though, with the noodles going down very smoothly, with the added slippery texture of the fermented beans.

#3 Ebi Tango Furai (Deep Fried Prawn Meatballs) - RM28
#3 Ebi Tango Furai (Deep Fried Prawn Meatballs) - RM28

Serve me anything savoury and deep fried, with bread crumb crust, and chances of me loving it would be pretty high. Same goes for Fu-Rin's Ebi Tango Furai (Deep Fried Prawn Meatballs. Tiger prawns were used in this dish, finely chopped up and deep fried to a golden crisp. Drizzled with wasabi mayo and topped with some ebiko, I'm guilty of popping more than my fair share into my mouth.

#4 Fu-rin Creamer Maki (Assorted Seafood with Mayonnaise Rolled) - RM48
#4 Fu-rin Creamer Maki (Assorted Seafood with Mayonnaise Rolled) - RM48

The Fu-rin Creamer Maki (Assorted Seafood with Mayonnaise Rolled) was a wonderful mish mash of seafood, unagi and soft shell crabs. It was a unique blend of different sauces as well, with the Teriyaki sauce, onion infused mayonnaise, and teritaku sauce, all blending in to give out a tasty offering. This is one of the new chef's specialty dish, which I must say is very creative.

#5 Jumbo Ebi Sushi - RM58
#5 Jumbo Ebi Sushi - RM58

The Jumbo Ebi Sushi would be a hit among sushi lovers. It had these generous fillings of king tiger prawns all rolled into one bite sized sushi topped with delicious mayo, cream and cheese. The grilled prawn contributed to the savoury goodness of this dish.

#6 Kuruma Ebi ChizuYaki (Tiger Prawns grilled with cheese) - RM32
#6 Kuruma Ebi ChizuYaki (Tiger Prawns grilled with cheese) - RM32

If you would prefer your Tiger prawns served as a whole, then go for Fu-Rin's Kuruma Ebi ChizuYaki (Tiger Prawns grilled with cheese). Grilled to perfection with lots of creamy cheesy flavour, this dish was a delight to be had, especially when fresh prawns were used.

#7 Sashimi Carparcio Aburi (Seared Fish Carpaccio Style) - RM48
#7 Sashimi Carparcio Aburi (Seared Fish Carpaccio Style) - RM48

The Sashimi Carparcio Aburi (Seared Fish Carpaccio Style) was beautifully done up, perfect for those who loves sashimi. The dish is almost fusion-like with delicious lightly flavoured toppings which does not take away the taste from the sashimi.

#8 Pan Furai Wafu Toriyaki (Japanese Style Pan Fried Chicken) - RM28
#8 Pan Furai Wafu Toriyaki (Japanese Style Pan Fried Chicken) - RM28

A simple looking dish, yet very fulfilling to the stomach, up next is the Pan Furai Wafu Toriyaki (Japanese Style Pan Fried Chicken). Marinated and then pan fried to perfection, the chicken had a blend of garlic and parsley flavour, which went well with the accompanying Furin tartar sauce. Simple as it is, I like this dish.

#9 Korokke (Potato Croquette) - RM28
#9 Korokke (Potato Croquette) - RM28

Fluffy mashed potatoes blended with beef, bell peppers, and corn croquettes make up this delectable Korokke (Potato Croquette) dish. It went really well with the Tonkatsu dip, which was made from soy sauce, Dijon mustard, Worcester sauce and garlic powder.

#10 Yaki Soba (Fried Buckwheat Noodles with Seafood) - RM28
#10 Yaki Soba (Fried Buckwheat Noodles with Seafood) - RM28

I did not know noodles can taste this good. The Yaki Soba (Fried Buckwheat Noodles with Seafood) had this sweet and savoury taste, one which might be a tad too sweet for some folks, but for me it's perfect. The chunky scallops, prawns and seafood thrown in added to the wonderful texture and flavour of the dish. I like the fact this dish wasn't too wet nor dry, leaving a very nice taste and aftertaste to the tongue.
