Attainable Perfection With Carboxytherapy @ Mediviron UOA Clinic
So there I was one fine weekend over at Mediviron UOA Clinic again, this time to check out one of their talk and demo to introduce the new Carboxytherapy treatment. We were given a run down on how Carboxytherapy works, what it can be used for and the treatment mechanics. It was also an invitation for beauty bloggers, which I sometimes think I don't really fit in that morning.

We arrived to a a photo taking session at the Clinic’s Photo Wall. We were then ushered into the Premier Aesthetic Room (which is usually used by the Clinic’s VIP guests) where there were some light refreshments prepared. The highlight of the refreshments was the orange blossom & lime cupcake with spiced chocolate frosting and toffee crunch that teased the senses courtesy of Sindulgence.

Mediviron UOA Clinic’s Clinical Division Director, Dr. Jasmine Ruth welcomed the guests to the event and handed over the session to one of the clinic’s doctors. The doctor presented a short but concise explanation of how Carboxytherapy works, what it can be used for and the treatment mechanics.

Carboxytherapy takes advantage of a physiological principle known as oxygen off-loading. Carbon dioxide is naturally present in our bodies at all times and it is essential to the life processes of both animals and plants. Have you ever noticed that if the blood supply is cut off to your hand that it will turn a distinctive shade of violet? What you are actually seeing is the accumulation of deoxygenated blood.
So, how does carboxytherapy work? Dark under-eye circles, cellulite, and scars are believed to caused, at least in part, due to poor blood-flow to the region. By injecting a small amount of carbon dioxide gas into the area, we are “tricking” the body into increasing the oxygen flow to the area by compelling the red blood cells to pick up all of the excess CO2 that we injected so that it can be carried back to the lungs for elimination from the body with the next exhalation.

She also affirmed that Carboxytherapy is not a new treatment but has been forgotten since other machines have come about. However it is very effective and affordable to treat cellulite, stretchmarks, sagging skin and more. The presentation was joined by one of the clinic’s patients who wanted to know more about the treatment.
Carboxytherapy can be used to treat the eyelids, face, neck, arms, stomach, buttocks, and legs. By injecting a small amount of carbon dioxide gas into the affected areas, blood flow is increased and improved capillary networks are formed for longer lasting circulatory benefit. The bluish cast is replaced with a healthy pink tone. Once a series of treatments is completed, the skin has a more luminous appearance that lasts approximately six months.

Treating the fats and cellulite on the thigh of the patient |
After the Q&A session, the guests adjourned to the treatment room to witness a live demo of the treatment. The subject was treated for cellulite and stretchmarks. For Cellulite treatment, the fine needles are injected directly into the layer of fat for 8 minutes to 15 minutes.
A relatively tiny needle is to be used |
And it's in! |
To treat stretchmarks the needle is injected just beneath the skin layer for a few seconds on each spot all along the stretchmark. The subject reported none to very minimal discomfort. The guests were allowed to touch and feel the CO2 gas under the subject’s skin and ask more questions.

The clinic’s patient who joined the session volunteered to try out the treatment on herself. She described the feeling of the CO2 gas entering the fat layer as ‘like little nibbling’. All bloggers were offered a complimentary treatment to experience Carboxytherapy for themselves, which I might try, or pass it to Janice to try the treatment out.

This brings forth the question on side effects of this treatment. Well from what I was informed, the only real possible side effect of carboxytherapy is the potential for a bruise at the injection site. Usually, the eyelids can be treated without leaving any marks, making it a truly “no-downtime” procedure. Bruising is very common when treating the arms and legs.
There are no known risks associated with carboxytherapy. Carbon dioxide injection has been safely used for years to facilitate endoscopic surgeries of the abdomen. Carbon dioxide is also being injected directly into the bloodstream by invasive cardiologists for certain diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
