Teh Tarik Place @ The Curve, Mutiara Damansara

It was a night of Malaysian delicacy delight over at Teh Tarik Place @ The Curve, Mutiara Damansara where I got to savour four of their dishes from the "Simply Sedap" promotion. We got to try out their Nasi Ambeng, Laksa Johor, Mee Rebus and Rojak Pasembor. Check out my review on the dishes below.

Malaysian classic dishes are heavily influenced by the potpourri of cooking styles from the multi-ethnic makeup of our population. At Teh Tarik Place, they offer us exactly that, with the new "Simply Sedap" promotion where it is all about treasuring Malaysian timeless comfort food that is rich in traditions.

#1 Nasi Ambeng - RM12.90
#1 Nasi Ambeng - RM12.90

The Nasi Ambeng from Teh Tarik Place had a unique combination of various Malaysian delight. This Malaysian-Javanese feast is meant for sharing, usually served in a rather large portion, layered with a piece of banana leaf. Here, we can enjoy it as a single portion, served with fragrant rice along with mee goreng mamak, a choice of ayam masak merah or ayam masak kicap, serunding kelapa, pajeri nenas and the customary ikan masin. I must say I loved the very tasty mee mamak as well as the Ayam Masak Merah, which was tender and not too spicy.

#2 Laksa Johor - RM8.50
#2 Laksa Johor - RM8.50

We were served with the Laksa Johor next, with a bowlful of luscious Laksa Johor served with spaghetti in a unique Malay-style laksa broth made from fish paste, assortment of herbs, chilies and spices. It was a spicy dish, but one which tantalized the taste buds with flavour. To me, it was akin to penang curry mee, except for the ingredients used, and the spaghetti instead of the usual yellow noodles.

#3 Mee Rebus - RM7.50
#3 Mee Rebus - RM7.50

With tangy, spicy brown gravy, Teh Tarik Place's Mee Rebus had the usual garnishing of lime, chilies, vegetables, hardboiled eggs, as well as crunchy deep fried fritters, prawn and chicken. I always feel that a good mee rebus is not dependent on the ingredient but more on the soup base being used. Here it was pretty good, with lots of flavour.

#4 Rojak Pasembor - RM7.50
#4 Rojak Pasembor - RM7.50

This local dish as I remembered it has always been traditionally sold by vendors on motorcycles that have been modified to serve as mobile kitchen as it is made to order. At Teh Tarik Place, Rojak Pasembor consists of juicy fried tofu, deep fried fritters, cucumbers and hard boiled eggs, covered with sweet, thick and spicy peanut gravy. I would have preferred if there were more crunchy fried fritters thrown in, but this wasn't bad at all. Do check out this eatery the next time you are at The Curve.
