Taang Shifu Restaurant @ Paradigm Mall

Always a fan of nutritious food, I had the opportunity to dine again at Taang Shifu, this time courtesy of LivingSocial. Do check out my previous reviews of Taang Shifu at KL Festival City Mall (Tang Shifu KL Festival City Mall) and 1 Utama (Tang Shifu Restaurant 1 Utama) . This time around, it was a feast of sorts over at their branch in Paradigm Mall. Do read on for my review writeup below.

The interior of Tang Shifu's outlet in Paradigm Mall really gives off an oriental feel as can be seen in the photos above. I actually felt I was walking into one of the Chinese restaurants in ancient times, just like in the movies.

#1 Autumn Tea - RM12.90
#1 Autumn Tea - RM12.90

Reaching the restaurant just in time for dinner, we were first served with some rather refreshing tea in these nice transparent tea cups. It did not take long before the dishes were brought out, and it was a feast for both the eyes and stomach that night, a total of more than 10 nourishing dishes to be shared by everyone.

#2 Braised Pork served with 4 Black Sesame Buns - RM15.90
#2 Braised Pork served with 4 Black Sesame Buns - RM15.90

The first dish was the  Braised Pork accompanied with four Black Sesame Buns. I've always liked the way Taang Shifu prepares their braised pork, full of flavour and taste. Highly recommended by the chef, the braised pork is supposed to be wrapped in these black sesame buns before popping it into the mouth.

#3 Mee Suah with Dried Scallop & Abalone Slices - RM13.90
#3 Mee Suah with Dried Scallop & Abalone Slices - RM13.90

Compared to the other subsequent dishes that we savored that night, this Mee Suah with Dried Scallop & Abalone Slices has a really mild taste to it. The mee suah noodles were slippery smooth, going down the throat easily, coupled with dried scallop and abalone slices, you know you're having a healthy dish the moment you put it into your mouth.

#4 Pan fried Eggplant with Scallop in XO Sauce - RM16.90
#4 Pan fried Eggplant with Scallop in XO Sauce - RM16.90

Up next was the Pan fried Eggplant with Scallop in XO Sauce, a dish which I didn't have much of due to me not really liking eggplants. I did try a couple of bites though, and I must say the scallops really added to the nice flavour of this dish.

#5 Cordycep Flower and Japanese Mushroom with Sliced Pork - RM38.90
#5 Cordycep Flower and Japanese Mushroom with Sliced Pork - RM38.90

This had to be my favourite dish that night, one which I could not have enough of, especially that sinfully delicious sliced pork belly complete with fats and all. The Cordycep Flower and Japanese Mushroom with Sliced Pork came served in a boiling hot pot, with yam slices inside as well. The meat is seriously tender, literally melting in my mouth. It was a tad too oily though, but I guess that is to be expected from that much fatty meat inside, with the cordycep flowers adding some healthy element to the dish.

#6 Angelica Dang gui Stewed Pork topped on Rice - RM7.90
#6 Angelica Dang gui Stewed Pork topped on Rice - RM7.90

Another meaty dish, the Angelica Dang gui Stewed Pork topped on Rice was a meal on its own. Supposedly good to regulate blood circulation, this dish provides a delicious savoury bite on top of being very appetizing and filling. The dish comes with a choice of having the white rice replaced with brown rice by topping up RM1.

#7 Claypot Beancurd with Sliced Dory Fish and pickled Olive - RM26.90
#7 Claypot Beancurd with Sliced Dory Fish and pickled Olive - RM26.90

Another nice and must try dish at Taang Shifu would be this Claypot Beancurd with Sliced Dory Fish and pickled Olive. Served in a piping hot claypot, the fish tasted really good without having that fishy taste, probably because they used dory fish. The beancurd had a nice texture to it, without being too hard nor soft, blending well with the soup and sauces used.

#8 Steamed Cod Fish with Dried Scallops - RM32.90
#8 Steamed Cod Fish with Dried Scallops - RM32.90

The Steamed Cod Fish with Dried Scallops was indeed a luxurious dish. The huge slab of steamed cod fish takes up nearly the whole plate, coupled with nice dried scallops and broccoli on the side doused in delicious soup-like sauce. I've always liked cod fishes due to their smooth texture, and this was no different. Good stuff.

#9 Snow Mountain Lotus Black Chicken Soup - RM38.90
#9 Snow Mountain Lotus Black Chicken Soup - RM38.90

Another one of Taang Shifu's signature dish would be this Snow Mountain Lotus Black Chicken Soup. I was told this dish was simmered for 5 to 6 hours to extract the essence of the snow mountain lotus, giving out an unforgettable herbal taste. The chicken itself melts in your mouth, being really soft and all.

#10 Stir Fried French Bean with Pu Er - RM15.90
#10 Stir Fried French Bean with Pu Er - RM15.90

Mummy always said to finish your vegetables, and here at Taang Shifu, the Stir Fried French Bean with Pu Er would be a vegetable dish I would love to finish all by myself. Again, it wasn't exactly a very healthy dish due to the oily nature of it, but I do love the savoury sweet taste of this dish.

#11 Emperor Chicken Marinated in Wine - RM16.90
#11 Emperor Chicken Marinated in Wine - RM16.90

Introduced as being an appetizer dish rather than a main one, the Emperor Chicken Marinated in Wine came in bite sizes. It wasn't a hot dish, with the chicken being glazed in wine and their special sauces. Being bite sized, I had more than a couple of the chicken pieces myself.

#12 Home Braised Pork Belly with Rich Dark Sauce - RM22.90
#12 Home Braised Pork Belly with Rich Dark Sauce - RM22.90

As the saying 'Save the Best for last' goes, I would definately rate this final dish, the Home Braised Pork Belly with Rich Dark Sauce the best dish I've had that night. Of course, be prepared for the fat overload as pork belly is being used, but the rich dark sauce covering the generous amount of meat left me very satisfied. The sweetness of the sauce coupled with the soft meat was just what the doctor ordered, or not.

#13 Caramel Ginger Beancurd - RM5.90
#13 Caramel Ginger Beancurd - RM5.90

We ended the rather heavy meal at Taang Shifu with their sweet Caramel Ginger Beancurd dessert. Now I love beancurd desserts, but the one here did not sit well with me. Probably it's due to it being cold while I love mine hot, or the fact that the beancurd was slippery and smooth yet a bit too curdled for my liking. My friends having it that night sung praises of it though, so probably this is just my personal taste. Do drop by Taang Shifu the next time you have a craving for nutritious delicious chinese soup and cuisine.

You're fast! Haha. They didn't serve us the sliced pork with cordyceps! And I liked the beancurd dessert too, especially the thick caramel!

  2. Nothing that I would fancy. Nice decor though - up front.

  4. I tried out Taang Shifu in Setia City Mall and ordered their most basic brown rice with pork. It was decent. Wish I had more bucks to try out more dishes!
