Takumi Japanese Fine Dining Restaurant @ Grand Millennium Hotel

It was a japanese fine dining affair recently at Takumi Japanese Fine Dining Restaurant at Grand Millennium Hotel when I was invited to try out their signature menu with a bunch of bloggers and users of HungryGoWhere Malaysia. It was my first time trying out their fares at Takumi, so do check out my review of the cuisine we had below.

Arriving there just in time for dinner, I was told this was the place to be for Japanese fine dining. Now I can't really consider myself a very big fan of Japanese food, but the ones here were really exquisite if you asked me. We were promptly ushered to our seats before being served like royalty that night.

#2 Kani Salad - RM28
#2 Kani Salad - RM28

We were first served with some greeneries, in the form of the Edamame and Kani Salad. The Edamame was both fresh and crunchy, something to munch on while waiting for the rest of the dishes. It was interesting that the Kani Salad had a very nice mildly spiced sesame dressing, spiced up with a mix of wasabi. A very refreshing appetizer indeed, one I actually liked.

#3 Sashimi Platter - RM180
#3 Sashimi Platter - RM180

A Japanese cuisine dinner is never complete without the beautifully laid out Sashimi Platter. Here at Takumi, we were served with their Sashimi Platter, with 18 pieces of fresh seafood served on a bed of ice with shiso leaves. Now if you're a sashimi fan, you would definately love the sawara (Spanish mackerel), maguro (tuna), kanpachi (amberjack), hotate (scallop), sake (salmon), and ohyuu (halibut). Yes they had all these on one platter!

#4 Lobster Mentaiyaki - RM78 (half)
#4 Lobster Mentaiyaki - RM78 (half)

When the Lobster Mentaiyaki was brought out, it was a sight to behold. The lobster came served on a bed of salt, topped with mentaiko. The two went really well together, bringing out the flavour I've come to enjoy, as it's not everyday I get to enjoy lobsters on my dinner plate. It is both savoury, sweet with a tinge of salt.

#5 Steamed Kawahagi (seasonal pricing)
#5 Steamed Kawahagi (seasonal pricing)

We were introduced to the Kawahagi Fish also called the Leather Jacket fish (seasonal price). This particular fish is usually served as sushi with its liver. That night however, we had it served chinese steamed style. Served with some vegetables, tofu on the side, this dish is pretty okay to me, but I personally prefer meat to fish.

#6 Chicken Curry Cutlet Maki - RM30
#6 Chicken Curry Cutlet Maki - RM30

Up next was the Chicken Curry Cutlet Maki, one of dish I like that night. Simple, yet tasty, with a combination of various ingredients into one. Not bad, crispy on the outside, as the seaweed has been deep fried to a crisp, giving it a different texture from your usual maki.

Angus Beef Shabu-Shabu (RM88)
Angus Beef Shabu-Shabu (RM88)

I can still remember my last shabu-shabu experience in Tokyo five years ago where I got to try the delectable kobe beef. Here at Takumi Japanese Fine Dining Restaurant, it was no less divine, with  A5 Wagyu Sirloin and the Angus Beef thrown into the pot. Needless to say, the wagyu beef was my favourite that night, thinly sliced, going well with the peanut and sesame dips.

Good stuff here.
Good stuff here.

A quick dip in the boiling tasty soup was enough to cook the thinly sliced wagyu beef strips. I enjoyed it so much, that the few strips just wasn't enough for my mouth alone. It was that good!

The pricing at Takumi for the shabu shabu is as follow:
  • Shabu – shabu (Angus beef) : RM88.00
  • A5 Wagyu Roso : RM158.00
  • A3 Wagyu Sirloin : RM180.00
  • A5 Wagyu Sirloin : RM280.00
  • Matsuza Beef : RM490.00

We ended our meal at Takumi Japanese Fine Dining Restaurant, Grand Millennium Hotel with a rather large platter of fresh fruit. It was a very nice dinner, sampling one of the finer japanese cuisine, one which I was thankful to be given the opportunity to try out. Do drop by if you're in the vicinity of Bukit Bintang area, and looking for some fine japanese cuisine.
