Chinese New Year Dinner @ The Emperor Grand Dorsett Subang

It's been a while since I updated on food posts, so here's one in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations this weekend. This round, we were over at The Emperor Grand Dorsett Subang to try out their Chinese New Year dinner menu. It wasn't my first time over, the last time was for their Dim Sum Buffet.

Arriving at the restaurant just in time for dinner, we were ushered into one of their private rooms. The theme was all about the upcoming Chinese New Year with all the bright red decor. One glance at the pre-set Chinese New Year set menu, and I knew it was going to be a fun night, one to indulge in.

As always the tradition was to start off with the Yee Sang, remembering to toss as high as one could for prosperity and luck. The unique thing about The Emperor's Yee Sang was that it had these crispy Fish Fritters inside which made it crunchier and tastier as well. Needless to say, the whole table was rather messy when we finished tossing.

Our next dish was essentially a really healthy chicken soup. With a rather long name, the Double Boiled Cordyceps Flower with Dried Scallops and Black Chicken Soup was served individually in a bowl. Having Cordyceps, scallops, and black chicken all in one dish was a feast for the tastebuds, and it did indeed taste great, without being too sweet nor too thick.

#3 Roasted Crispy Chicken with "Ma Lat" Sauce

Chicken lovers would love this Roasted Crispy Chicken with "Ma Lat" Sauce dish. The chicken skin is roasted to a crisp, with a topping of spicy "Ma Lat" sauce with lots of garlic. I would have liked it spicier though, but it was okay.

Steamed Red Snapper with Golden Garlic and Superior Soya Sauce

Steamed fish dishes has to use the freshest fishes or it might not taste as good. The Emperor's Steamed Red Snapper with Golden Garlic and Superior Soya Sauce had really tender flesh. Together with the special blend of soy sauce and garlic, it was indeed a sweet tasting dish.

Wok Fried Fresh Tiger Prawns with Salted Egg Sauce

Next we had the Wok Fried Fresh Tiger Prawns with Salted Egg Sauce. It was a unique blend of salted egg infused into the shells of the fried tiger prawns. I did like the prawns, but the salted egg does give off a really overwhelming taste to the whole dish which needed some getting used to. Needless to say, the plate was sparkling clean by the time we were done with this dish.

Braised Dried Oyster, Sea Moss in Money Bag with Green Garden came with these "gyoza" shaped skin with dried oysters and sea moss inside. Personally, I'm not into oysters or mussels, but my fellow foodies did mention the oysters were good. I did have lots of that healthy broccoli which went well with the sauce.

After all that food, it was only befitting to end it with some sweet desserts, and that we did with the Chilled Mango Puree with Mixed Fruit and the Deep-Fried Chinese New Year Cake with Glutinous Dumpling "Shanghai" Style. It was the chinese styled deep fried "nien kao", yam and sweet potato being wrapped and deep fried to perfection that hit my sweet tooth. I just had to have more.

Currently The Emperor Grand Dorsett Subang is having their CNY set menu from RM1088 to Rm1888 per set, so if you have not found a place yet to have that reunion dinner or CNY dinner, do drop by.
