Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant Parkroyal KL

Just last week, Janice and I had the opportunity to dine and stay over at Parkroyal KL for a short weekend getaway and it was a rather relaxing affair. More will be written on our stay there, but for now this post would be a review of Parkroyal KL's Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant.

Located on the lower ground of Parkroyal KL, I was pretty impressed with the decor, and have actually heard and read good things about Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant before. Arriving at the restaurant just in time after our late evening checkin, Janice and I were promptly seated and served tea from this really skillful tea master from China. He actually did some spinning around before pouring our tea from his 1m long tea pouring snout. Check out a demonstration of his skills which I caught on video below.

It wasn't long before we were served with our wonderful chinese si chuan cuisine for the evening. We were served with really unique dishes ranging from the spicy, the hot, the sour to the plain savoury and yummy. The spiciest was of course the main dish which I shared at the start of this blog post, the Chong Qing Diced Chicken with Spicy Dried Chili.

#1 Sichuan Hot and Sour Soup - RM20
#1 Sichuan Hot and Sour Soup - RM20

We kicked off the night with the piping hot Sichuan Hot and Sour Soup, which came in individual servings perfect to whet our appetite for more of the heavier dishes that night. I was apprehensive initially when this soup came out as I don\t quite fancy sour food. To my surprise, it wasn't too sourish, and really did prepared our taste buds for more to come.

#2 Fried Butter Prawns - RM60 (medium) RM90 (large)

Up next we had the Fried Butter Prawns, which I really liked a lot. The prawns were big and juicy, peeled and fried with butter served with some vegetables on the side. The butter really brought out the flavour, coupled with the freshness of the prawns, I just had to have more.

#3 Boiled Sliced Beef in Sichuan Spicy Pepper Sauce - RM52 (Medium) RM72 (large)

If you're into spicy si chuan cuisine, then you'll definately love this dish. Si Chuan Dou Hua's Boiled Sliced Beef in Sichuan Spicy Pepper Sauce came highly recommended by our hostess that night, and I had to agree with her that the spiciness and tenderness of the sliced beef went really well together to numb our taste buds with food pleasure. The dish was a combination of flavors from garlic to onions and the spicy Sichuan pepper.

Stir Fried French Bean with Minced Garlic - RM28 (Medium) RM38 (Large)

A simple yet deliciously prepared, the Stir Fried French Bean with Minced Garlic was just the vegetable for us. Stir fried with generous amounts of fragrant minced chicken, and what appears to be dried shrimps, it did taste good to me. Not as spicy as the other Si Chuan dishes, I felt it went well with our taste buds after all that numbing dishes before this.

#5 Stir Fried Scallop with Seasonal Vegetables - RM65 (medium) RM85 (large)

Janice saw the Stir Fried Scallop with Seasonal Vegetables and before we knew it, this really huge scallops were on our plate in front of us. Now I have a phobia of anything which have any sort of fishy taste to it, but one bite on these giant scallops, and I took lots of bites thereafter.

#6 Chilled Sea Coconut With Ginsend and Dried Longan - RM10

#7 Home Made Fine Beancurd with Wolfberry - RM8

We ended the night of good Si Chuan food with some sweet desserts in the form of their Chilled Sea Coconut With Ginsend and Dried Longan and the Home Made Fine Beancurd with Wolfberry. It's sweet, not the best I've had though, but good enough to satisfy our stomach and seal off a good dinner over at Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant Parkroyal KL.
