What's Celcom's Cupcake Challenge all about? Well, it's a current on-going online contest organized by Celcom in conjunction with Malaysia's Independence Day and the upcoming Malaysia Day celebrations on 16th September 2012. In view of the on going cupcake contest held by Celcom from 30 August 2012 – 23 September 2012,
The venue, The Cooking House at Desa Sri Hartamas |
Reaching the venue way before it kicked off, I found out The Cooking House was actually a training centre for folks to learn the ways of baking and cooking perfection. I did not really know beforehand that I'll be getting my hands dirty with flour and dough that morning, but it was all fun! It was a good thing I went to the workshop with Janice as I'm sure she enjoyed it way more than I did.
Hey, that's me before the baking session started. |
The simple Celcom Cupcake Challenge contest hosted online was to challenge Malaysians to submit photos of their creative cupcake deigns in conjunction with our country's 55th anniversary of Independence and the upcoming Malaysia Day celebrations on 16th September. It is open to all Malaysians everywhere in the spirit of 1Malaysia.
Our "sifu" for the cupcakes making session |
In his address to the class, Zalman Aefendy Zainal Abidin, Chief Marketing Officer of Celcom Axiata Berhad said, "Celcom is opening this contest to all Malaysians, not just Celcom customers, as a chance to put their patritism and creative skills on display. We chose Facebook as the contest channel so that even more Malaysians can come together, share their love for the country, and experience the power of personal connections even while at different corners of our beautiful nation."
My team of four, comprising of media and bloggers alike, Ling, Raja Azuni and friend. |
The class that morning was hosted by a couple of "teachers", on of them Lu Soo Chee, a resident cake artist in The Cooking House and a member of ICES (International Cake Exploration Societe) and the British Sugar-craft Guild, who has more than 10 years of baking and cake-decorating experience.
Bloggers and media enjoying the session |
There were more than 50 of us that fine Saturday morning from various blogs and media publications, all ready to learn the basics of baking and cake decorating with a patriotic twist. It was also an opportunity for us to submit our creations to the Celcom Cupcake Challenge Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/cupcakeschallenge) as our own entry.

Pretty ladies with the freshly baked cupcakes |
Once the cupcakes were baked and ready, we moved on to the next part of the session which was to decorate our cupcakes. Of course we had to prepare the icing ourselves, using lots of sugar and butter in the process. It was pretty fun playing with the colourings and trying to get the perfect shade of red, blue or yellow that we wanted.

Cantik the cupcakes. edible?
ReplyDeleteFer,
ReplyDeleteHehe, yes it is all edible.. the frosting is a tad too sweet though, but the vanilla cupcakes were great!
Nice meeting you Isaac!
ReplyDeleteThrow all the icing, eat all the cupcakes <3
ReplyDeleteNice...but what I am wondering is what connection Celcom has with cupcakes and cooking. If it had been some cake ingredient manufacturer or kitchen appliance company, then it would be more logical that they sponsor the event.
ReplyDeleteCool experience there!
ReplyDeleteBaking is always fun! But I've yet to bake cupcakes heh :)
ReplyDeletenot bad wor chef isaac! :P
ReplyDeleteIsaac, next time bake for me ok? :P
