Din Tai Fung @ e@Curve Mutiara Damansara

It has been a while since my last food update, with numerous reasons I can come up with as an excuse, but hey, today's post will be on the new Din Tai Fung outlet in e@Curve which I had the chance to try out a couple of weeks back. The name itself Din Tai Fung is well known, with branches literally everywhere, with this outlet being its fourth outlet after The Gardens, Midvalley, Pavilion KL, and Empire Shopping Gallery.

Serving chinese cuisine, Din Tai Fung is well known for its deliciously made Xiao Long Bao, which were actually these small dumplings filled with hot soup which were a delight to have. We were served with two different types of Xiao Long Bao, the normal ones, as well as the Truffle Xiao Long Bao. Crafted into 18 exquisite folds, the skin itself was really smooth.

#1 Xiao Long Bao

#2 The Premium Truffle Xiao Long Bao

Now I was really intrigued by the premium Truffle Xiao Long Bao. Having a whole slice of truffle beneath the dumpling skin was a unique sight, what more having it burst out in flavours in your mouth. Truffle lovers will love these Xiao Long Baos.

#3 Pickled Cucumber
#4 House Special Appetizers

Before heading on to heavier dishes, we were served with some of the signature Din Tai Fung appetizers, namely the Pickled Cucumber as well as the House Special. The Pickled Cucumber was exactly like it's named, pickled Japanese cucumber. Doused in chilli oil and red chilli, it had a tinged of spiciness to the dish. As for the House Special, it was a combination of seaweed, glass noodles, bean sprout, spicy dried bean, green onions, sesame oil, red chili, chili oil and vinegar.

#5 Mini Sesame Buns
Sesame in steaming hot mini buns

The Mini Sesame Buns was made from sesame fillings and flour imported from Taiwan. It wasn't too big as to really fill you up, but take a couple of it, and you\ll find yourself mighty pleased with the taste. The buns were made just right, hot and nice.

#6 Hot and Sour Soup
#7 Baby Green Beans with Minced Pork

Up next were chinese cuisine dishes whipped up by the chefs in Din Tai Fung. The Hot and Sour Soup comprised of black fungus, mushroom, taufu, bamboo shoots, pork slices, eggs, green onions, and seasoned with chili oil, vinegar, black pepper. It had just the right composition of sourness to the soup. As for the Baby Green Beans with Minced Pork, I just wished there were more minced pork as it tasted really good!

#8 Shanghainese Drunken Chicken

Fancy some Shanghainese Drunken Chicken? When it was served, I did not realize the dish was actually a cold dish, with the chicken being marinated in alcohol the Shao Hsing Rice Wine and Nu’er Hong to be exact. I guess I'm too used to having piping hot dishes, as this dish was a totally different experience. The flavour was there, with smooth chicken skin where you could just gulp down the whole piece.

#9 Cha Jiang La Mian
#10 Spicy Shrimp Pork Wanton

The Cha Jian La Mien, which was essentially a la mien (noodle) dish, flavoured by spicy dried beans, tomato, shredded meat, green soy bean and soy bean paste. I'm a fan of chinese noodles like these as the texture was really soft. This dish went really well with the Spicy Shrimp Pork Wanton, with generous pieces of shrimp and pork found inside the wanton.

#11 Pork Chop Fried Rice

Din Tai Fung's Pork Chop Fried Rice came with this delicious slab of pork chop on top of their famous fried rice. Now it is interesting to note their fried rice isn't like the usual wok burnt fried rice, but the flavour was there. The egg fried rice was actually cooked using two cups of Japanese rice and two eggs, hence the nice flavour to it.

#12 Chilled Mango Pudding
#13 Gui Ling Gao

We ended our hearty meal in Din Tai Fung with the desserts Chilled Mango Pudding and Gui Ling Gao. It was a nice end to the meal as both these desserts were sinfully sweet. Do check out Din Tai Fung in e@Curve should you be in the vicinity, or probably when you're at e@Curve to catch the latest blockbuster movies.
