Cheng Ho Court Restaurant Mines Wellness Hotel

Chinese New Year is just around the corner, with every other restaurants in the Klang Valley getting ready for the festivities with delicious Chinese New Year menu. This round, I had the opportunity to sample Cheng Ho Court Restaurant's Chinese New Year Set Menu over at the Mines Wellness Hotel. Located inside the hotel on the 3rd floor, Cheng Ho Court Restaurant is Mines Wellness Hotel's in-house Chinese Restaurant serving Halal food.

Cheng Ho Court Restaurant Mines Wellness Hotel
The very oriental looking interior

So we were there to check out Cheng Ho Court Restaurant's Chinese New Year Set Menu which starts from RM788++ per table of ten. The interior wasn't really unique save for some oriental decoration, but I guess the important thing would be the food. I was pretty excited as this would be my first Chinese New Year Course Dinner for the year, plus the prospect of having a nice dinner together with bloggers and friends was pretty cool.

A Before and After "tossed" photo of the Salmon Loh Sang

A Chinese New Year dinner would not be complete without the compulsorily Loh Sang tossing, and tossed we did when the Salmon Loh Sang was served. It is a belief that the higher you toss the Loh Sang, the more prosperous you'll become. It did get pretty messy in the end from all that tossing, but it's all good!

#3 Deep Fried Chicken With Plum Sauce

The first two dishes that arrived were pretty standard, namely the Braised Assorted Dried Seafood Soup with Crab Meat and the Deep Fried Chicken With Plum Sauce. The chicken was nicely done though, with the flavor being enhanced by the plum sauce.

#5 Baked Tiger Prawn with Special Chef's Sauce

Personally I would have preferred steamed fish but the Deep Fried Red Snapper Fish with Vinegar Sauce wasn't too bad either. The vinegar taste was rather strong which might not really go down with everyone, but it does give a unique flavor to the fish.

As for the Baked Tiger Prawn with Special Chef's Sauce, it was good, but would have been way better if the shells were removed before being served. I always like my prawns served without the shells, saving me the trouble to peel them as if a prawn isn't really very fresh, the shell peeling process becomes really troublesome as it tends to stick to the meat.

#7 Claypot Rice with Preserved Meat

The combination of Stir Fried Vegetables with Almond Flakes gave a crunchy texture to the whole dish while having a really nice almond aroma. Coupled with lots of garlic, we could smell the tastiness of the dish even before actually eating it.

As for the Claypot Rice with Preserved Meat, it was another dish which smelt really good. Cheng Ho Court Restaurant is a halal restaurant hence the preserved meat in this dish was made from duck. Unfortunately the taste was a tad too salty for my liking.

#9 Fancy Duet

We ended the Chinese New Year Course Dinner with two nice desserts dishes, the Chilled Sea Coconut with Longan and Lemon and Fancy Duet. After a good meal, these two sweet dishes were the perfect choice to wash it all down.

It was my first time dining here, at Mines Wellness Hotel, which I found to have lesser crowd than usual, probably due to the holiday season. If you're having a tough time deciding where to have a round of Lou Sang with dinner for the upcoming Chinese New Year, there's Cheng Ho Court Restaurant in Serdang for you.
