Now I did not know there's this quaint boutique hotel named Anggun Boutique Hotel along Tengkat Tong Shin just adjacent to Jalan Alor. The hotel was really nicely done up, with traditional settings that shouts authentic Malaysia culture the moment you step in. Last week, I was invited for a short dinner over at their rooftop restaurant aptly named Bubu Rooftop Restolounge.

"Bubu Rooftop Restolounge, the first culinary outing by Anggun, is set on the rooftop garden terrace of this 1920s converted shophouses located right smack in the hip Tengkat Tong Shin Street in Bukit Bintang. The restaurant is the only rooftop garden restolounge in KL and has the atmosphere of being in an oasis in the city."
"With an inviting atmosphere, your day can start in style with Rooftop Bubu Restolounge’s ala Carte Breakfast. The rooftop restaurant with overhanging fish-trap inspired lamps surrounded by large green leafy fronds and other potted tropical plants provides a nice setting where authentic Malaysian and International cuisines, freshly brewed coffee, natural rainforest tea, fresh fruit juices and tropical fruit shakes are offered."

With traditional decoration, Bubu Rooftop Restaurant exudes a very comfortable ambience |
Arriving at 8pm that night, it was already dark, yet the restaurant brings out that romantic, cool ambiance perfect for families, and couple wanting to have a quiet dinner away from the hustle of city life. The unique part about this restaurant was, we were so close to Jalan Bukit Bintang where it was full of people, yet up in Bubu Rooftop Restolounge, there was this serene feeling away from the crowds.

Fancy a candlelight dinner here? |
Bubu Rooftop Restolounge has been around for quite some time now, but only recently have they opened their doors to the public for dine-ins. All these years, Bubu Restolounge served as an in-house restaurant for the guests of Anggun KL. We were promptly served with some dishes prepared by the 2 chefs that Bubu Restolounge had. Check out below on what we had that night.
#1 Bubu Fried Mee |
#2 White rice to complement our dishes |
#3 Pineapple Fried Rice - RM10 |
#4 Fresh Mushroom Soup - RM6 |
#5 Bubu's Chicken Curry - RM15 |
#6 Vegetable Medley - RM8 |
#7 Bubu's Spicy Prawns - RM16 |
Overall, the taste was okay, more to the indian style of cooking since one of Bubu's Restolounge was from India. Lots of spices were put in for the curry, which was a good thing, but personally to me, it tasted like any average Malaysian dishes. The prawns used in their spicy prawns dish were fresh and I think this would rank as my favourite dish for this round.
The desserts came next, which I did not really fancy at all. I mean banana splits aren't suppose to come in ice-cream cups, are they?
#8 Banana Split - RM7.90 |
#9 Banana Flambe (Banana rolled in a thin pancake with choc and ice cream) - RM8.90 |
The prices however were pretty reasonable since the ambience and restaurant settings were truly unique. How often do you get Bubus hanging around lighted up? You will get to watch people walking the streets below from the rooftop as well. It was all good I tell you, and I wouldn't mind coming here again with Janice for a romantic candlelit dinner.

We were taken on a short tour of the hotel after the meal. I found out Anggun Boutique Hotel attracted lots of foreign tourists looking for a unique place to stay in. With only 18 rooms of various setups and sizes, Anggun Hotel was almost always fully booked. I really liked their concept, and am pretty sure the restaurant will be bringing in lots of customers too since it has gone public.
