Molten Lava Cafe One Utama

Molten Lava has been around on the lower ground floor of One Utama New Wing and may not be a new thing to some of you. However for me, Churros is definately a new term for me. Molten Lava specializes in Churros and Funnel Cakes with a mix of fusion local dishes and Macarons! I was delighted when invited by Carmen to go for a round of good food in Molten Lava the other day.

So what are churros, and what makes it so special? A quick check online, and I found some good info as shared below.

A churro, sometimes referred to as a Spanish doughnut, is a fried-dough pastry-based snack, sometimes made from potato dough, that originated in Spain. Churros are also popular in Latin America, France, Portugal, Morocco, the United States, Australia, and Spanish-speaking Caribbean islands. There are two types of churros in Spain. One is thin (and sometimes knotted) and the other is long and thick (porra). They both are normally eaten for breakfast dipped in hot chocolate or café con leche.

So there we were, warmly welcomed by the owner Michelle Chong and all ready to chomp down some good food. Michelle gave us a quick rundown on how the concept of Molten Lava, what food they serve. and how the Molten Lava has been in the industry since the opening of One Utama's new wing. She even did a demonstration of the making of Churros as well as the Funnel Cakes which I will share further down this post. For now check out some of the wonderful fusion local food we had.

After having these delicious hot food, we were invited by Michelle herself to see how the churros and funnel cakes were made. It was really interesting to watch the process. So what do you think the end result looks like? Churros and funnel cake looks delicious, and after biting into them, I would say it tastes as delicious as it looks. Just check out below on the varieties that Molten Lava has to offer.

#9 Funnel Cake (Banana, Caramel & Ice-cream) - RM10.50

My first experience of having churros, and it's an awesomely delightful plus sweet to the max experience. Churros actually reminded me of a classier version of the chinese "Eu Char Kwai" with added sugar coating. The texture was much nicer though, crunchy on the outside, while soft on the inside. As for the funnel cake, it tasted great too, with a different batter being used which produced the airier hollow effect. Added with the banana, caramel and ice-cream, this can be taken as a meal on its own.
Oh did I mention Molten Lava makes Macarons as well? We were treated to a collection of different flavored macarons along with Molten Lava's Almond Pear Tart. Check out these delightful desserts below.
