Aroma Thai Restaurant Damansara Perdana

Aroma Thai, the name alone got me thinking of some aromatic nice tasting Thai food. The other day, together with a couple of other bloggers, we were invited for a dinner at Aroma Thai in Damansara Perdana by Iris from ILoveDiscount.my. Aroma Thai showcased some "homecooked" Thai, as the owner Julius Khoo mentioned that their cooks are employed from Thai to prepare "homecooked" styled dishes.

So there we were, all 6 of us (Iris, Carmen, Edwin, Janice, Jayren and I) getting all ready to chow down on some good Thai food. The owner, Julius Khoo actually came out to welcome us, and gave us a brief explanation on his menu, food and cooking style. The ambience for Aroma Thai was pretty homely, but I thought it needed a bit more Thai deco.

So what was my take on all these good Thai food? For one, it is very much different from what I had at other more luxurious Thai restaurants (such as Wan Thai Langkawi, or Sri Ayutthaya Thai) as the dishes served here were simpler in their garnishing and spicier. Everything was so spicy that I was dripping from my forehead halfway through the meal. I guess homecooked Thai food are meant to be extra spicy!

The taste was pretty good, except for some dishes such as the vegetables and mixed vegetables with meat which were on the saltier side. I loved the Otak-Otak though, it had the right amount of ingredients in it to make it both filling, soft and tasty. The same cannot be said with the tom yam soup, as it was too sour for my liking. The prices for each of the dishes weren't really cheap, but I guess this is what's expected from any Thai restaurant. Small sized servings go for a minimum of RM12 per dish up to RM19 for a large portion serving.

Mango Sticky Rice
We ended the session with 2 desserts, the water chestnut drink and the mango sticky rice. This was my first time having the mango sticky rice so I couldn't actually compare it with any others. However, a fellow blogger did commented the rice wasn't sticky enough, and the mango was not cold.

Overall, it was a good meal indeed. If you happen to be near by Damansara Perdana, don't hesitate to drop by Aroma Thai Restaurant. Currently, there is an on-going deal by Ilovediscounts, do check out the link below.

  19. You bet, I will try it soon. I have been eating Thai food all my life so I would love to see whether they are different and better. I think their decor looks Thai enough for that size. Perhaps you might expect the decor to look like Sri Ayutthaya's.. I went there twice and not again.

  24. Caroline Ng, there are many types of Thai Tom Yam from different provinces and this restaurant's varieties are correct. The clear or reddish type. The other common one is coconut milky type which is popular with Southern Thais. The Tom Yam from Chiengmai and Upper Northern provinces are very messy looking like 'Kiam Chai Boey'... Just my 2 cents.
