Linksys Velop Intelligent Tri-Band Mesh WiFi System 3-Pack White (AC6600) Review

Linksys Velop Intelligent Tri-Band Mesh WiFi System 3-Pack White (AC6600) Review

Recently, to too long ago, I've gotten my Unifi upgraded to the 100Mbps package. To me, this is a major upgrade to my previous Streamyx 4Mbps package. Happiness all around at that time, until I realize the connection gets weaker aka slower when I'm using the net in my bedroom upstairs. Ever had that problem? What’s the cause of this? Blame it on our Streamyx default modem and router? Does the fact that the house has thick walls everywhere impeding the signal?

It was awesome timing then that I found the Linksys Velop Intelligent Tri-Band Mesh WiFi System 3-Pack White (AC6600). What’s this Linksys Velop thingy you may ask? Well, that’s the purpose of my writeup today, to share on this really cool whole-home Wifi or mesh-router system.

With coverage up to 6,000 square feet, no more dead spots no matter where I am in the house! The best part is, I could setup, monitor and control home Wi-Fi with the Linksys App, wirelessly no matter where I am. Read on below for my review after using this system for a month.

What is the Linksys Velop all about?

A short introduction is in order. If you’re like me, one who has not heard about mesh-router systems, then Linksys Velop has to be one of the easiest ones to setup, no major headaches whatsoever. The Linksys Velop Intelligent Tri-Band Mesh WiFi System 3-Pack White (AC6600) uses several routers that work seamlessly with each other to ensure the Wifi signal of our home remains the same throughout the whole house.

Design and Features

The packaging that houses the Linksys Velop does look good. Unboxing it is pretty quick, no fuss and simple enough. Inside you get three individual wrapped nodes, together with three power supplies with the 3 pin plugs. The nodes look really nice in matte white, not too tall at 185mm with a 76 mm wide square footprint. Minimalism at its best, these nodes will look great no matter where you place it at your home.

The tall columns are easy to place around your home and their unobtrusive finish means that they'll blend neatly into the background. Available as either a single unit, in 2, or in a pack of 3 nodes, depending on the size of your home, you can play around with the number of nodes to be set up. What’s cool is that you can only have one Wifi name and password for all 3, giving us the option to roam seamlessly between each node. No more signal loss!

Under each node, we have 2 ethernet ports, which suffice for me, as I did not plan to connect any wires, going fully wireless. However, if you require more ethernet ports for printers, or other peripherals, then probably 2 isn’t enough. Each node has a power switch, power input and a reset button. What I like is the fact there’s a single light on top which glows in a number of colours depending on the status of the node. Setting up, going strong, or having weak signals will output a different light colour.

The Linksys Velop has self-healing functions, that if someone accidentally unplugs a node, the other nodes will pick up the slack.

Wirelessly Access the Dashboard On your App

Setting up, accessing the settings, simple as it may be is done through the app on our smartphones. I could setup, monitor and control home Wi-Fi with the Linksys App, wirelessly no matter where I am, be it at office, in the house, at the park. The screen on the app displays the name of the network, how many devices are connected, and buttons to turn Guest Access, Parental Controls, and Device Prioritization on or off. Simple, yet effective.

Satisfaction

Checking my speeds in Speedtest website/app deals me nearly max 100Mbps throughput, even in my bedrooms, at the corner of the toilet. No more dead spots at home. Now this is really satisfying, considering that before this, each time I wanted to connect to my wifi upstairs (my router was placed downstairs), the speed and connectivity will always drop.

The Linksys Velop Intelligent Tri-Band Mesh WiFi System 3-Pack White (AC6600) is my type of lifestyle router, each to set up, once all three nodes are up and running, no further configuration required. It just works. I did find out that the pricing for this system is pretty high compared to other competing brands out there.
