An Viet, translated from the Vietnam language means “Eat Viet”, having 2 branches, both in popular malls, namely The Gardens and Mid Valley Mall. We have tried the dishes from both outlets, but today’s review would be based on our dining experience at the Sunway Pyramid outlet. Not only do they serve really good Vietnamese dishes, An Viet is also joining the global movement to create awareness for minimizing global food wastage.

What’s that about? Well, for starters, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization, a staggering 1/3 of the food prepared for human consumption globally goes to waste!  To prevent wastage of food, An Viet came up with this novel idea of offering diners a choice of the number of gram of rice (120g, 160g, 200g) or noodles (80g, 120g, 160, 200g) they can eat, and no extra charge! This literally means you can either choose a smaller portion, or bigger portion at the same price. Avoid wastage, great idea indeed!

An Viet Offers an array of Delicious Dishes

Apart from the usuals, pho, spring rolls and drip coffee, I was pleasantly surprised to see a whole lot of other dishes on the menu, from grilled rice paper pancake, to clam soup and more! If you are a fan of Vietnamese coffee, do what I did, order the Vietnamese Egg Coffee!

CÀ PHÊ TRỨNG (Vietnamese Drip Coffee with Egg) - RM9.90
CÀ PHÊ TRỨNG (Vietnamese Drip Coffee with Egg) - RM9.90

A must have beverage in Vietnam, the Cà Phê Trứng – Vietnamese Egg Coffee was delight to savour, before we dined on heavier stuff. It’s a rich, creamy concoction made from egg yolk whipped with condensed milk. Don’t forget to try out their renowned Vietnamese Drip Coffee as well.

Banh Trang Nurong

This is something rather simple, yet too delicious to miss out on. The rice paper is grilled over slow fire, with minced pork, quails eggs and dried shrimp inside. Love how crispy and fragrant the end result is. Lovely.

BÁNH TRÁNG NƯỚNG (Grilled Rice Paper with Minced Pork) - RM9.90

Canh Chua Ngao Nuroc Dura

Don’t miss out on this clam soup dish as well, the Canh Chua Ngao Nuroc Dura. The broth that made up this dish wasn’t in any way spicy, which made it the perfect choice for the kids to savour. The natural sweetness from fresh clams went really well with the coconut water. Sweet, slightly sour, served piping hot, we loved the flavours of the soup.

Xoi Chien Phong

A perfect ball of surprise! When it was served, both the boys were taken by surprise as it did look rather big, the ball. The crispy ball of fried glutinous rice puff didn’t actually contain anything inside except for the bottom portion which is slightly sweeter. In fact, the whole rice ball is rather sweet. It goes well with the smoky chicken salad at the side though. Try it.

Bun Cha

A Vietnamese dish made of grilled pork and noodle, I’m sold! Grilled sliced pork belly, coupled with minced pork patties, lots of pickled green papaya and carrots, mint, basil, green coral and 100% pure fish sauce, these go really well with the accompanied Vietnamese rice vermicelli.

Banh Mi

An all time favourite, the baguette sandwich filled with pork slices and pickled greens. The Banh Mi is my favourite Vietnamese dish if you asked me, and I just have to order this delight no matter which Vietnamese restaurant I'm dining at.

Pho Bo Dac Biet

Here’s a wholesome dish on its own, the Pho Bo Dac Biet consists of Vietnamese Beef Noodle Special with Raw Beef, Beef Brisket, Shank, Tripe, Tendon, & Homemade 100% Pure Beef Ball. Simmered for over 12 hours long, the broth is wonderfully beefy with hints of spices. Another must try dish at An Viet.

Cha Ca La Vong

If you fancy having a really flavourful fish in claypot, fragrant and tasty, then do try out An Viet’s Cha Ca La Vong, Hanoian Style Fish with Turmeric & Dill. It did pick up our appetite for more, and the fish was really delicious. Served with sides, the Mrs really did like this dish.

We ended our rather heavy meal at An Viet with their special Viet-ffogato, a house made concoction of Vietnamese drip coffee with condensed milk ice cream and coconut milk and Kem. What’s Kem? Basically its Ice Cream where we get a choice of Coconut, Condensed Milk or Lime & Lemongrass Sorbet.
