The Brew House @ TTDI

Fancy chilling out with your friends, after a long hard day at work, or over the weekends, having good ol’ beer and nice warm food. Just recently I’ve had the chance to catch up with friends at The Brew House located in Taman Tun Dr Ismail. It was an invitation from Racheal, so many thanks to her for a great makan-makan time. Check out what we had that day below.

The Brew House at TTDI offers dishes which is made up of fusion dishes, with a whole lot of choices from the menu. Order to share, or if you want an individual dish, they have it as well. We had the numbers that day, so multiple dishes were ordered, a feast if you could say. It was a weekend, and the crowd had almost filled up the entire place, an indication this outlet is a popular one among the locals.

Snacks to kick off our meal

Ordering from The Brew House’s snack menu, we had the Salted Egg Fish Skin with Pork Floss first. Not bad at all, the fish skin was fried to a crisp, tasty and had this wonderful fragrant coming from the salted egg sauce. While munching on these, I did feel it would go perfectly with beer, so don’t hesitate to order some!

Next, the Prawn Paste Chicken Wings were served, which to me wasn’t outstanding enough, but that might be because the previous salted egg fish skin already overpowered our taste buds. The chicken wings came with dipping sauce, which enhanced the taste a bit more.

Pork skewers! Who doesn’t like these? I’m a big fan of skewered meat, and here, they serve Moo Ping, Pork Neck Skewers served with pickle slices and Thai dipping sauce. It came beautifully laid out on this small platter.

A rather Asian dish, we had the Bacon Wrapped Pork Meat Ball braised in Connor’s Stout Sauce next. Served with toasted bread on the side, the meat ball was really juicy and being wrapped in my favourite bacon, I wouldn’t say no to this dish. It is rather filling though, luckily we had many mouths to share these.

Porky Platter, a mix of sliders with luncheon meat and char grilled pork, sticky ribs and roast pork served on a wooden platter. Another dish I like over at Brew House TTDI, this is perfect for people like me who likes to try it all, but don’t want to order individual dishes. Good stuff there.

Mains

Spoilt for choice, there’s a rather large number of dishes to order from the mains menu at The Brew House. If you want an individual, yet fulfilling dish, do try out the Brewhouse Char Siew Rice Bowl which consists of Char Siew, pickle lettuce, onset egg, and more! Pretty nice dish, but I did wish there was more meat in this rice dish.

Seafood lovers might do good to order the Lala Noodle Soup, with generous amounts of Lala on top. The soup itself has a strong herbal and wine taste, which can literally warm up your stomach on a rainy or cold day.

Braised Pork Belly, or “tau ew bak” in Hokkien as I would like to call it. Braised, fatty, soft meat cooked in tamarind and egg, have it with the accompanied rice to bring out the Asian in you. Totally loved this, I could even have a second serving all for myself.

Curry Dishes

If you want some spices in your dishes, go for the various curry dishes on their menu, from the Nyonya Pork Ribs Curry, with stewed pork ribs in nyonya spices, to the Mutton Varavul Curry cooked with okra and served with rice. They do add a bit of spice into your tastebuds, perfect for Malaysians.

While dining there, we tried the Fried Chee Cheong Fun, which surprisingly came out tasting really good. There’s a hint of “wok hei” in the dish, fragrant and very tasty. I do recommend trying these out, as they don’t use your usual flat noodles, but they use Chee Cheong Fun instead. Tastes like char kuey teow, the lighter version. The picture I took of it came out too blur, but the dish can be seen in my video at the end of this post.

Brew House Signature Pork Steak

I was excited when the Brew House Signature Pork Steak was served as it is one of their signature dish. The whole 250g of pork steak was served with accompanied apple slaw, grilled peach, potato puree, sautéed vegetables doused in peppercorn sauce. First impression upon seeing it, I felt it looked rather dry. But upon biting into the meat, it did not disappoint as the meat inside was quite juicy, and not too tough.

Up next, the chef brought out the Weekend Roast, aptly named the Flaming Chicken “Hot Chick” . Yes, this dish is a big one, good to share among 3-4 pax. The chicken is then flambéed in front of us. Flame on! The meat is infused with alcohol, and came out rather nicely. I wasn’t too big a fan though, as the taste didn’t quite exhilarate my taste buds.

While dining at The Brew House, one must order from their wide selection of beer, liquor, wine and cocktail to have with the food. We went for the beers, and they have a rather good pricing. A frozen mug of Carlsberg goes for RM9.80 and only RM18.80 for a pint.
