Refreshed Menu @ KIMI-Ya Japanese Restaurant, Avantas Residence

Now here’s a Japanese restaurant which serves really nice Japanese cuisine, one which I’ve reviewed before when they first started. Read my previous review here. KIMI-YA Japanese Restaurant, located over at Avantas Residence in Jalan Klang Lama recently refreshed their menu, adding in new seasonal dishes among others. We had the chance to savour some out the other day. Check out what we had below.

Their food served is really good, with Chef Khim at the helm, presenting to us his selection of fresh and premium Japanese cuisine. In fact, this season, they have air-flown in some of the freshest seafood from TSUKIJI Fish Market in Chuo, Tokyo. Not your usual fares, there’s the ocean-fresh seafood up for the picking, from Leather Jacket, Scorpion Fish, Gurnard, Ren-Kodai, Isaki and Yanaginomai.

Chef Khim of KIMI-YA explained how he created a brand new contemporary Japanese cuisine for diners. The key word here is authentic Japanese cuisine, and this is as close as we get to those served in Japan itself. Fresh seafood galore.

On the new menu is the Kaori Bako Kani Salad, a refreshing start to our yummylicious dining experience over at KIMI-Ya. Loved the special made Goma dressing, to the point I requested extra. It went well with everything!

Wagyu Beef, My Favourite

My weakness for wagyu beef is no secret, and here at KIMI-Ya, they serve the finest A5 Wagyu Beef from Kagoshima, Japan. Oh my, I got to savour the Kagoshima Wagyu dish, and it was really good! So tender, one dish wasn’t enough. The flavours were just out of this world, pan fried to perfection, not too overdone, with all the natural juices locked in. Served with pea sprouts, this is a must-have for wagyu beef lovers.

Tarabi Gan - Grilled King Crab with Salt

What a beautiful dish, the delectable seafood dish, Tarabi Gani - Grilled King Crab with Salt was served grilled over high heat. One bite into the flesh, and I can attest to the sweet, succulent fresh white King Crab meat. Good stuff indeed.

The Zaru Soba, a cold noodle dish, one which was an acquired taste, at least to me. Featuring fresh buckwheat noodles, it goes well with the accompanied dipping sauce. I was more keen on the Curry Udon which was served next.

If you’re a fan of Japanese Udons, you must go for the Curry Udon. Flavourful, the udon itself was unlike any others I’ve tried, as it is chewier than usual, going really well with the Japanese curry which was fragrant, slightly spicy, yet not too sweet.

Fresh Sashimi For All

If you’ve asked me a couple of years back, I would have told you I’m not a fan of sashimi. Ask me now, and I’ll tell you, I have acquired a love for fresh sashimi unlike any other. You must try out the Matsu Sashimi Moriawase from KIMI-Ya’s menu. There’s a choice of either 4, 6 or 7 different kinds of sashimi to savour and order. We had the Salmon, White Tuna, Amberjack and Tuna Belly, Scallop, Octopus as well as Pink Shrimp which totally satisfied my cravings for sashimi.

Sweet endings, we had the Warabi Mochi to end our awesome dining session. The Warabi Mochi is starch dumpling, drizzled with brown sugar syrup and lots of Kinako (roasted soybean powder).

  1. I guess that is to show that the fish is very fresh but can't say I like seeing the fish like that, eyes big big staring at you. :D
