GROW 2018 Campaign @ Tropicana City Mall & Mines Shopping Mall

It was last weekend, in conjunction with Earth Day that together with the mum and kid, we headed over to Tropicana City Mall to check out the launch of GROW campaign. Interesting eco-friendly campaign, GROW targets young kids to educate them on the climate change and its effects. The young generation will get to indulge and immerse the love of nature and in the act , they get to hone their gardening skills as well!

Held at a green house at the mall, where there’s plenty of sunshine, GROW activities involve a series of organic planting. Encouraging the kids to eat healthy, we as adults have a role to play as well to preserve our environment. Together with Karlson, we got to plant and harvest the vegetable which were grown using the Hydroponic Method inside the Green House.

At the event, Professor Kajendran Latchman was present to demonstrate and teach all present how to cultivate, grow and harvest the hydroponic vegetables. In fact, last month, on the 24th of March, 50 students aged 5-12 years from Global Modern International School and Wendy Montessori had planted seeds at the community greenhouse using the hydroponic system over at the Mines Shopping Centre.

The second series of GROW Campaign at the Mines was held on 20 April with the same children coming back during harvesting and with help from local grocer, Oliver Gourmet, they packed the vegetables to be sold at there and the sales from the proceeds were donated to a charitable organisation too.

Ms Paulin Lim, the Marketing Communications Manager said that The Mines Shopping Mall and Tropicana City Mall are delighted to collaborate with the local grocer, Oliver Gourmet in this year-long GROW campaign. Mr Tham Oi Loon, Managing Director of Oliver Gourmet said as local grocer, they are proud to be part of the program that gives back to the society by helping the under privileged.

At the event, Karlson had lots of fun planting the seeds, as well as harvesting the vegetables, straight from the roots up. I find it imperative to cultivate the “I love nature, and care for the environment” thinking from young. This is definitely a good learning for Karlson on the environment while choosing healthy vegetables.

  1. That's nice! Hydroponics. Never tried as I'm staying in a landed property, lots of land all around so no necessity for me to do that.

  2. I remember these hydroponics... i used to watch tv back then and they always encourage every household to practice this. I think this is very good for apartments but I'm afraid to grow them cause no time to care for them
