SOULed OUT CNY Chap Goh Meh Celebrations

SOULed OUT CNY Chap Goh Meh Celebrations

Ah, my fav hang out spot, an old favourite. Now I did not know SOULed OUT has up to 4 branches already in the Klang Valley and even one in Kota Kinabalu, now that’s a good thing. Just the other night, I was over with a couple of bloggers and media friends at SOULed OUT Bangsar South in celebration of the upcoming Chap Goh Meh (it’s tonight!). The popular neighbourhood haunt pulled out all the stops to commemorate Chinese New Year across all its outlets with traditionally themed food and beverage promotions throughout the festival period.

Lou Sang & Dine with Friends!

From as low as RM23 per potion, families and friends got the chance to lou sang together. We did some tossing of our own, for more prosperity and luck this year! Good food and drinks are to be expected too, where the good folks from SOULed OUT brought out the Chinese New Year Snack Plate which include season favourites like chicken ‘siew mai’, ‘wantans’ and ‘money bags’, as well as steamed prawn dumplings and fried ‘mantau’.

Bring Out the ‘Ong’ and ‘Fatt’!

Another symbol of the strong ties between family and friends, thematic of the season, is of course the observance of Chap Goh Meh, which marks the end of the Chinese New Year festival. While this tradition has evolved over recent years, the spirit of openness, generosity and abundance persists in cultural observances such as seasonal decorations, ‘tang yuen’ or glutinous rice balls served in syrup to polish off multi-course Chap Goh Meh dinners and of course, the gifting of mandarin oranges.

Celebrating Chap Goh Meh over at SOULed OUT Bangsar South

While we dined over at the outlet in Bangsar South, it was a night of festivities so to speak. To celebrate the formation and renewal of ties, SOULed OUT hosted Chap Goh Meh in a spectacular fashion and everyone shared in the tradition and togetherness. All SOULed OUT outlets shouted CNY ambiance as hundreds of metres of firecrackers heralded a special visit by ‘Choi Sun’, the God of Prosperity and his lucky lions.

By taking part in giant ‘Loh Sang’ ceremonies, as firecrackers were lit to ward off bad luck, guests improved their fortunes in the coming lunar year by touching the robes of the God of Prosperity or by petitioning lion dancers for oranges as they went around bringing ‘Ong’ (luck) and ‘Fatt’ (prosperity) to all 5 SOULed OUT outlets. Not a bad night out after all, the drinks made it even better!
