DubuYo Urban Korean Food Halal Restaurant

It has been a while since my last Korean meal, so it was with great delight that I tried out DubuYo Urban Korean Food Halal Restaurant @ Quill City Mall the other day. Yes, it's a Halal-certified Korean restaurant, which means everyone can have a taste of what they have to offer, which is pretty good. Check out what we had that afternoon.

Simple, clean concept, DubuYo serves urban Korean food, including their signature Soondubu Jigaes and a whole lot of Korean noms ranging from Bibimbap, Ramyeon, Toppoki and many more. They have a total of 13 branches all over Malaysia so do check out their website for their locations.

Appetizers

We kicked off our meal with some appetizers in the form of DubuYo's Golden Beoseot Fried Mushroom and Maandu (which is almost similar to the Japanese Gyozas). The fried mushroom dish is rather large, deep fried to a crisp golden brown yet it was still moist inside. It went really well with the sesame based dipping sauce. The Maandu is a tasty snack, dumplings with minced meat and vegetables which are pan fried. It did remind me of the Japanese Gyozas, with a slightly different texture.

Soondubu Jigae

When you're at DubuYo, you must try out their signature and best-seller dish, the Soondubu Jigae. Served boiling hot, be careful not to burn your tongue when sipping the soup. Love how flavourful the broth is, which is made from either chicken broth or beef broth. Inside we could taste lots of tofu, egg, vegetables and the meat of your choice, being either seafood, beef or chicken.

Doenjang Jigae - RM20.75 ala carte/ RM23.10 Set

Seafood lovers may like the Doenjang Jigae (soybean paste based) which comes with seafood and vegetables inside. A yummy stew indeed, you can either choose to have it on its own or as a set which comes with 3 banchan (side dishes) of the day and DubuYo rice. The DubuYo rice deserves a mention, as it is unlike your usual rice, being brown in colour made from Japanese rice and black sticky glutinous rice.

Yukgaejang (Spicy Beef Noodles) - RM 19.60 ala carte / RM 21.90 Set
Yukgaejang (Spicy Beef Noodles) - RM 19.60 ala carte / RM 21.90 Set

The Yukgaejang (Spicy Beef Noodles) comes with these silky smooth Korean glass noodles which went really well with the beef broth and yummy shredded beef strips. Inside the broth, there's a generous serving of mushrooms as well. Good stuff, one which I could slurp it up all on my own. The soup wasn't too spicy, just right for my taste buds.

Spicy Seafood Raymeon - RM 19.60 ala carte/ RM 21.90 Set

Simple noodles, yet so delicious, the Spicy Seafood Raymeon is cooked in broth filled with seafood. Inside we could taste the seaweend, KimChi and corn too. Love how everything came together in one hearty dish. I especially love the springy instant noodles inside.

Samgyetang (Chicken Ginseng Soup)

Healthy soup indeed, go for the Samgyetang (Chicken Ginseng Soup) if you are in need of some good 'healing' cuisine. The Ginseng aroma isn't too overwhelming, yet you can taste it, along with the fragrant herbal soup cooked with Korean ginseng and glutinous rice inside. A whole big piece of tender juicy chicken thigh is inside for our enjoyment.

Tuna Bibimbap - RM 20.75 ala carte / RM 23.10 Set

Honey Garlic Bulgogi Beef - RM 21.90 ala carte/ RM 24.25 Set

Different from your usual Bibimbap, we tried DubuYo's Tuna Bibimbap which had these generous servings of spicy tuna on Dubuyo rice, topped with lots of fish roe, corn, crab sticks, radish and egg. Not bad at all, but the DubuYo Honey Garlic Bulgogi Beef is even better! I'm a meat lover, so it's nice to taste these great tasting Honey Garlic Bulgogi Beef which has been pan grilled and cut into juicy strips for our enjoyment.

New Menu @ DubuYo - Chi-Jeu Dak (Spicy) & Chi- Jeu Dak (Honey Mustard)

We took the opportunity to try out DubuYo's new menu item as well, the Chi-Jeu Dak (Spicy) & Chi- Jeu Dak (Honey Mustard). Lovely I tell you, especially for me as I love sweet corns kernels. Lots of cheese, the chicken dish is served in two versions, doused in spicy sauce or honey mustard. I much preferred the honey mustard one, but the spicy version isn't too bad either. The chicken is bite sized portion, which I like as it is rather crispy on the outer layer. These two new promotional itemis only available until 31 December 2016, so be sure to try them out before they're gone!

We ended our rather hearty meal at DubuYo Urban Korean Food Halal Restaurant with their sweet dessert, the Nockha Bingsu (Green Tea Bingsu). Green tea shaved ice never tasted so good.
