SANOOOK Thai Japanese Cuisine
A rather new establishment, at a very new (to me) Sunway Pyramid Hotel West, SANOOOK serves some rather nice Thai Japanese Cuisine. I had the opportunity to dine over there last week or so, and they impressed me with the uniqueness of their food. Read on below for a glimpse on what we savoured that afternoon.

Lot 4 Ground Floor
Sunway Pyramid Hotel West Bandar Sunway

Simple, comfortable decor
The restaurant itself is located at the corner of Sunway Pyramid Hotel West, sporting a comfy interior. I was told the word literally means 'fun', hence the fun concept. They combined the best of both worlds, Thai and Japanese cuisine, fusing it and created food befitting of the name.
Salads & Appetisers
Sanoook Salad Japanese Cucumber Wrapped With Salmon, Avocado & Baked Apple - RM 29.90
We kicked off our meal at Sanoook with an elaborate looking salad, the Sanoook Salad Japanese Cucumber Wrapped With Salmon, Avocado & Baked Apple. Using fresh ingredients such as cherry tomatoes, lettuce, we had generous amounts of salmon, avacado and baked apples thrown into the mix, leaving us with a refreshing salad to whet our appetites for the mains to come.
Sanoook's Rainbow with Sesame Sauce - RM19.90
Another very interesting looking appetizer dish came in the form of Sanoook's Rainbow with Sesame Sauce. Zuchini wrapped, this fusion sushi roll is indeed a sight to admire. Inside there was a host of different ingredients, all doused in fragrant sesame sauce.
4 Season Platter - RM37.90
Now the 4 Season Platter served next did remind me of that first dish you normally encounter in most wedding dinners. Here at Sanoook, it was a combination platter of Crispy Calamari, Salmon Cream Croquette, Vegetarian Spring Roll, Thai Fish Cake and these savoury crispy Thai Chicken Ball. In fact the whole dish had a certain deep fried allure to it.
Fusion Sushi Rolls
Tuna With Tom Yum Sauce Sushi - RM27.90
No wonder they are a Thai Japanese cuisine restaurant, as can be seen from this fusion sushi dish, the Tuna With Tom Yum Sauce Sushi. Tom Yum sauce? Surprisingly it tasted really good, paired with the fresh tuna sushi, topped with orange tobiko. Talk about having the best of both worlds.
Soft Shell Crab With Thai Mango Chili Sauce Sushi - RM34.90
My favourite kind of sushi must have soft shell crab contained within, and Sanoook made one just the way I like. The Soft Shell Crab With Thai Mango Chili Sauce Sushi is a refreshing take on your usual soft shell crab offering. Sweet, spicy, savoury flavours make up the explosion of taste in this offering. Not bad at all.
Soup, Thai Tom Yum Soup..
Tom Yum Soup With River Prawn - RM23.90
Shown above is the Tom Yum Soup With River Prawn before the soup is being poured in. Such an interesting setup, making sure we get to see what we are getting, some succulent river prawns, and yummy shimeji mushrooms. The spicy tom yum soup is made just right, with enough sourness and spiciness to please tomyum lovers.
Fish, white meat
Pan Fried Tuna Steak With Spinach & Mixed Mushroom Served With Teriyaki Sauce - RM28.90
I initially mistook this dish to be a poultry dish, instead the creative team behind Sanoook whipped up their Pan Fried Tuna Steak. The Spinach and mixed mushroom complete this dish, doused in sweet and savoury Teriyaki sauce. Did I mention I love teriyaki sauce and how it complements most Japanese dishes.
Skewered Meat, BBQ Selections
Skewered Meat Selection from Sanoook
Chicken Skewer With Massaman Sauce - RM32.90
Salmon Belly Skewer With Lime Chili Sauce - RM77.90
Just when I thought we had enough, the good folks from Sanoook brought out the BBQ skewered meat and salmon belly. Meaty, yet tender, I'm impressed by how the chicken tasted on the skewered. What's even special is the fact they managed to prepare Salmon Belly skewers. Known as Sake Toro, this is a rather exquisite and luxurious delicacy in Japan. I was glad I had the chance to savour it here.
Chicken Burger With Teriyaki Sauce - RM17.90
Another one of my favourite dish that afternoon would be Sanoook's Chicken Burger With Teriyaki Sauce. The chicken patty is so tender and had a strong teriyaki sauce flavour which I really liked. Even the corn on the side was nice. So what are you waiting for, the next time you're in the mood for some nice Thai Japanese cuisine, do drop by SANOOOK Thai Japanese Cuisine at Sunway Pyramid Hotel West.
