Ah. When news of events and music festivals from my hometown Penang enters my inbox, I am all excited and eager to share. Here's one, the Penang GEORGETOWN FESTIVAL A+SEAN Showcase 2016. I haven't been to the previous instalments over the years, but hey, never too late right?

The much-awaited George Town Festival is back in its seventh year to regale visitors like never before. The opening weekend of the festival is set to be the most exciting, with the two-day A+SEAN showcase offering the perfect family outing thanks to a fun mix of fashion, arts and culture. What’s more, entry for children below six is free! From toddlers to senior citizens, there’s something fun for everyone at this colossal two-day showcase. Have you booked your stay yet at any of the interesting and beautiful georgetown apartments?

The event featuring some of the best talents from Australia and Southeast Asia will be held at the Esplanade on July 30 and 31 from 4pm to 12am. The highlight of the event is a music concert featuring some of the hottest regional artistes from ASEAN countries. Rocking the stage will be Indonesian band Nidji, whose ‘Liberty Victoria’ single was used as a ManU anthem in 2013, and Malaysian “Queen of Jazz” Sheila Majid whose hits like ‘Sinaran’ and ‘Antara Anyer dan Jakarta’ are internationally-known anthems. This will be Sheila Majid’s first public show up north in over 10 years.

The concert will also feature rising star Raisa Adriana, whose music videos on Youtube have received more than nine million hits each, hiphop artists Joe Flizzow and SonaOne, Bittersweet, OAG, Dasha Logan, Bihzhu and Ocean of Fire. You can also create your own music at the Drum Tiga Suku. Bring along your version of a drum – an old pan, a broken stick – and join fellow festivalgoers to beat out a fun rhythm!

The fun doesn’t end with the A+SEAN showcase. With your purchase of A+SEAN ticket, make sure you pick up your GO card, which will entail you to 20% discount on all GTF merchandise and tickets, apart from other discounts at partner GTF outlets and establishments. While the yellow GO card allows you a one-day pass for A+SEAN, the red card comes with a two-day pass to the event.

  1. I wish I could be there! We have our Borneo Cultural Festival here starting today but guess it's the same ol' thing year in year out, nothing exciting.
