LEGO NEXO Knights Academy Event Showcase @ Midvalley Megamall

LEGO Malaysia is currently having their LEGO NEXO Knights Academy Event Showcase at the Centre Court of Midvalley Megamall which started 12th March to 20th March 2016. I had the privilege to attend the launch event, and it is awesome! The latest from LEGO, NEXO Knights depicts a medieval kingdom set in a futuristic world. Futuristic knights!

What's special about the event is the fact that Malaysia is the first country to host this in the whole of South East Asia. Pretty cool, where there's a huge space with activities ranging from virtual reality goggles, an interactive playstation, as well as showcase and play spots for kids to try out the LEGO NEXO Knights : Merlok 2.0 app as well as the actual LEGO sets.

A brief introduction to the all-new LEGO NEXO Knights is in order.

Five young brave knights based in the Kingdom of Knighton take it upon themselves to unlock exclusive power ups and build new shield in order to battle the royal court's evil jester - Jestro and a cast of monsters to restore peace.

This particularly interesting background story comes to life through LEGO building sets, a 20-episode animated television series and a digital gaming app ( LEGO NEXO Knights : Merlok 2.0 app) that fuels story-driven game play.

At the event space at Midvalley Megamall, kids get to undergo the Knight training process under the NEXO Academy. Compared to other LEGO series, these LEGO NEXO Knights are really unique, in the sense that it actually combines technology with the usual set building, creating a multi dimensional play. Check out the activities held at the showcase, shown below.

The Fantastical Realm of Knighton

Set in the futuristic, high-tech world of the kingdom of Knighton, LEGO NEXO Knights follows five young knights in their quest to battle the royal court's evil jester Jestro, his sidekick, the book of Monsters and their Lava Monster Army.

Heroic knight, Clay Moorington leads the band of knights including alpha superstar Lance Richmond, hipster Aaron Fox, Macy Halbert, a princess who would rather be a knight and Axl, the giant. Together under the tutelage of Knight's Academy mentor and Great Digital Wizard, Merlok 2.0, they join forces to defeat the enemy.

Blending Reality and Virtual Reality

I love how LEGO managed to blend real life play with virtual reality, in the form of the Merlok 2.0 mobile application. The app is available as a free download via App Store and Google Play. So how does it work? I've played it for a couple of days straight now, and I must say, I am addicted to leveling up my characters and the best thing is I could scan in various badges from the real world to "power up" my characters.

Budding squires can choose from an arsenal of futuristic battle gear and activate the NEXO Powers needed to battle the Lava monsters and grow into full fledged knights. Newly appointed knights have the ability to "download" as many as 170 unique NEXO Knights power (in the form of knight shields) scattered across the kingdom of Knighton.

These badges can be found existing in both physical and digital forms, including building sets, print ads, books, comics and even the new LEGO NEXO Knights animated television series. Watch the video below on how the Merlok 2.0 app can be fully utilized and played.

Once added to a digital power collection, children can continue their journey to knighthood with the LEGO NEXO Knights Academy as they gain access to more exclusive shields not found elsewhere. Bravery and imagination triumph over adversity, in the world of Knighton!
