1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice 新怡保鸡饭店 @ Midvalley Megamall

Fancy some good chicken rice, along with other very nice side dishes? Try out 1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice then. I was at their outlet in Midvalley Megamall last week, and it was a blast trying out all their signature dishes. One very cool service to note that they provide complimentary would be the chicken deboning service, very very convenient and makes eating those delectable chicken easier and better!

1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice 新怡保鸡饭店 is famous for its authentic & delicious Ipoh specialties – steamed chicken & bean sprouts which can be eaten with rice, noodles or porridge.

Other yummy dishes - pork balls made of fresh minced pork and minced dried cuttlefish, roasted chicken, roasted pork (siew yuk), honey BBQ pork (char siew), curry pigs skin, tofu, stir fried clams (Lala) in superior soup and even steamed talapia! We tried nearly all the signature dishes that afternoon, and it was good.

Kampung Chicken (Whole Bird RM88) - deboned version
Kampung Chicken (Whole Bird RM88) - deboned version

The steamed white kampung chicken is tasty, and very flavourful, but what's awesome is the fact that they give a complimentary debone service to diners upon request. Dining on chicken without the hassle of separating the bones is a privilege I haven't had the chance to try out in a long while. Good stuff! Even the sauce is good, using a premium type of light soy sauce.

Ipoh Bean Sprout - RM15

Looks can be deceiving, the Ipoh bean sprouts look so simple, yet it turned out to be delicious. The owner actually took the effort to explain to us that these bean sprouts aren't your usual ones, where they actually only purchase the middle level ones that absorb enough sunlight and minerals. In a nutshell, we were getting premium bean sprouts that day.

Stir Fried Lala in Superior Soup (RM25)

I don't usually drink the soup from Stir Fried Lala dishes, but here at 1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice, I took delight in slurping up the yummy superior soup unlike any other. The Stir Fried Lala in Superior Soup is a seasonal item, where I'm told they only serve it if there's a supply of fresh lalas.

Roasted & Honey BBQ Pork (RM20)
Roasted & Honey BBQ Pork (RM20)

My favourite combo, roasted and honey BBQ pork always go well together. Juicy and tender siew yoke with crispy skin is just what I needed to go with the fragrant rice. The BBQ char siew was good too, not the best I've tasted, but it suffice to get me excited.

Signature Fried Roasted Pork - RM25
Signature Fried Roasted Pork - RM25

More porky delight came in the form of their Signature Fried Roasted Pork where the roasted post is fried with sweet black soy sauce and onion presented to us in a very flavourful fragrant dish. The same cannot be said for the taste of the meat though, as I felt the sauce itself over powered the meat, or it didn't quite seep into the meat.

Pork Ball Soup (RM2/pcs)
Pork Ball Soup (RM2/pcs)

Side dishes like the Pork Ball Soup can be ordered for that much needed soupy goodness. It's pretty good, but not something I would order though as I'm more of a deep fried type of person. At RM2 per piece, I guess it's acceptable as the pork balls were rather big.

Buttermilk Fish Fillet (RM25)

While we were there feasting, we did try out 1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice's Buttermilk Fish Fillet and Hokkien Mee. The Buttermilk Fish Fillet is coated with salted egg butter milk, albeit a bit too strong for my tastebuds. I love the Hokkien Mee though, which I was told is cooked over charcoal fire to give that smoky flavour.

Do drop by 1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice 新怡保鸡饭店  at any of their outlets in Jalan Gasing, Sri Petaling, Damansara Jaya, MidValley, Sunway Pyramid and Puchong Bandar Puteri for your chicken rice fix.
