Nana's Green Tea @ One Utama Shopping Centre

Nana's Green Tea, the famous Japanese cafe dealing with Matcha, fine Japanese powdered green tea has opened in 1 Utama Shopping Centre. I had the opportunity to try out their 'must try' drinks and food the other day, and it's all good! They had their first outlet at The Gardens Midvalley, with this second outlet freshly opened early November 2014.

The logo mark is designed in the motif of 'Cha-sen', a tea stirrer. Combined with the idea of 'nanaha' which means seven leaves. Despite the name, Nana's Green Tea actually serves more than just green tea, as it offers a rather wide selection of Japanese cuisine that suits the lifestyle of modern people.

We did not waste too much time, to dive straight in to try out Nana's Green Tea specialty parfaits, namely the Kuri Mont Blanc Parfait, and the Matcha ' Nama Chocolate' Parfait. Served in these cute glasses, the Nama Chocolate is an artisan dessert starting with a layer of Kanten jelly and Matcha syrup then topped with soft serve vanilla ice cream. Inside there were generous layers of cornflakes, garnished with Matcha ice cream, Matcha chocolate Ganache, red bean paste and whipped cream. Good stuff here, must try!

There were quite a number of matcha themed drinks to pick off the menu, from the conventional green tea drink, to the Hoji Shiratama float which consists of Hoji latte topped with Hoji ice cream and Motchi. We even got to try out their Kuri Shiratama Soft Cream Latte. Now this is something unique, consisting of original blended white bean paste and chestnut with milk. Top it with soft serve vanilla ice cream, motchi and we have a very nice refreshing sweet delight.

Nana's Green Tea outlet at 1 Utama don't just serve drinks and desserts, they have full meals too. We kicked off our feast that afternoon with a jelly-like dish, the Kinako Warabimochi. Made of bracken starch, it had a rather nice texture, and went very well with the Kinako (Sweet toasted soybean) sauce.

Kuri Mont Blanc Hotcake - RM16.80

A special dish only available at 1 Utama outlet, the Kuri Mont Blanc Hotcake is both fluffy and soft, almost like a very soft version of a home made pancake. Topped with chestnut cream, and ice cream on the side, this is a good tea time indulgence.

Salmon Udon with Cream Sauce - RM18.80
Salmon Udon with Cream Sauce - RM18.80

Served in a rather large bowl of piping hot udon noodles, inside the Salmon Udon with Cream Sauce dish we could find huge chunks of salmon bits with brocolli, corn, sprinkled with black pepper. The cream sauce really brought out the flavour, giving us a very starchy and filling dish.

Mentaiko Salad Udon - RM16.80

If you love salad, why not pair it with udon. Introducing the Mentaiko Salad Udon, cold udon noodles served with mentaiko, broccoli, corn, tomato, leaf lettuce and mayonnaise in cold soup. Its basically a cold dish, so if you're not up for some cold udon, or not used to it like me, do try their other hot stuffs.

Shogayaki Chicken - RM16.80

Up next were the heavier dishes, perfect for the lunch or dinner meal. Some of it came in rather huge servings, where you could actually share it if you have a small appetite. The Shogayaki Chicken is stir fried with ginger sauce and Shimeji mushrooms. A unique mixture of sweet and spicy taste, I like this dish, but not as much as the next one.

Locomoco Hamburg - RM20.80
Locomoco Hamburg - RM20.80

Ah, how can I turn down some yummy beef patty served with warm millet rice. The Locomoco Hamburg reminded me of my mum's home made burger patties. Here they serve it with their homemade tomato locomoco sauce, garnished with red leaf lettuce, capsicum, broccoli and japanese style poached egg.

Now I've always loved the Kaarage, also known to me as those yummy finger licking good deep fried chicken bits. Here you can either choose to have it with udon and soup, or with Japanese curry served over warm millet rice. I do love these chicken delights. So if you haven't tried out their new outlet in 1 Utama yet, by all means go drop by Nana's Green Tea today!

  3. People who have a problem of overweight may take green tea instead of water and juices to lessen weight. Green tea has more antioxidants which suppress the appetite.
