Durian Lagenda @ Lot 10 Hutong

Fancy having some durians? Lots of it, whole year round without waiting for the durian season to arrive. Durian Lagenda, a newly opened kiosk in Lot 10 Hutong answers what most folks are looking for, an outlet to enjoy durian delicacies whole year round. I had the opportunity to check out their place recently, and even though I much preferred the durian stalls by the roadside with freshly opened ones, the durians and durian products at Durian Lagenda were surprisingly good.

Arriving at the Durian Lagenda kiosk at Lot 10 Hutong that evening, we were warmly welcomed by the owner. A quick chat with him, and I found a number of interesting facts about how the business came to be. As it seems, the durians served here came from the owner's own 'dusun' in Raub, Pahang. Yes, these are Pahang durians, which I heard were pretty good.

Without much fanfare, we were ushered to our tables and promptly served with the signature musang king durians. Served frozen, it was interesting that I had to wait for the durian to defrost before actually biting into the flesh. Of course, once warmed up to room temperature, the durians were soft, sweet and really hit the mark. I mean, what can go wrong with musang king durians. Subsequent dishes were made from durian pulp, which to me will never be as good as having the actual durian itself. Read on anyway on what we had that evening.

While waiting for our subsequent dishes and my durian to defrost naturally, it was a nice touch that Durian Lagenda served pretty nice ice-creams. I could actually taste the 'durian'ness in each ice cold bite, as real durian pulp is being added into the ice-cream, or so I was told.

#3 Durian Mochi - RM25/8pcs, RM3.50/ 1pcs

Now I'm not a big fan of any durian products, as I love my durian served natural, but here's an exception. The Durian Mochi was served chilled, with D24 durian filling inside the soft dessert. The soft layer outside was chewy to the bite, with the filling tasting almost like a freshly chilled durian fresh, almost. It was creamier and slightly sweeter than the average D24 durian.

#4 Durian Pancake - RM18.00/ 6pcs, RM2.50/ 1pc

More chilled items, where I was told they have to be frozen to maintain its freshness. The Durian Pancake were cold to the touch, something I needed to get used to. Well, if you like pancakes, chilled pancakes, then go for this dessert. We requested the pancakes to be heated up slightly, and it tasted way better, albeit abit too mushy.

#5 Durian Eggroll - RM18/box

It was a relief for me personally to finally have something not cold, namely the Durian Eggrolls from Durian Lagenda. Now this is a snack worth mentioning. Even though the durian flavour is minimal, I do like the crunchy, egg flavour of the roll.

#6 Durian Cupcake (RM5.50/pc)

We ended the review with lots of Durian Cupcakes. There were two flavours to choose from, the Dark Chocolate Durian Muffin or the Poppy Seed Durian Muffin. The texture was nice, fluffy, and sweet, with just a tad of durian flavour inside. You can taste more durian flavour in the poopy seed durian muffin as compared to the dark chocolate which had a more chocolatey taste. So there you have it, Durian Lagenda at Lot 10 Hutong. If you're out shopping in the vicinity and have a sudden craving for durians, just drop by to their kiosk and eat to your hearts content, with a price of course.

  1. Haven't been there for a while now. Gosh!!! They have this there? Now, the whole place is going to stink!!!! The pancakes don't look as the ones I usually buy - like little yellow pillows.
