New Ford Fiesta 2013 Launch @ Taylor's University Lakeside Campus

It was a day of fun, music, and lots of colours as Ford launched their latest New Ford Fiesta 2013 at Taylor's University Lakeside Campus last weekend. Held just before the start of Hitz.fm's Birthday Invasion party, I had the opportunity to attend this launch to check out Ford's latest hip and happening car.

In the lead-up to the new Fiesta launch, Ford introduced an innovative social media campaign, “Join the All-New Fiesta Movement,” designed to bring out the appeal and personality of the new Fiesta by emphasising lifestyle themes that resonated with the trend-setting Fiesta target audience. This was where the hip and happening fashion, lifestyle and tech icons were brought in.

It was part of the on-going "Fiesta Movement" in Malaysia, where Ford Malaysia devised various campaigns and missions to generate flash mobs and social media buzz around town. Four online personalities known as "Agents", each representing an attribute or personality of the new Fiesta was indentified. Read more about them below.

From a Fiesta aethestics aspect, blogger Chukei Baby Jane was selected to be the "Fashionista" Agent, emphasizing the Fiesta's sleek looks. As the new Fiesta features new smart technologies from Ford, tech blogger Jason Goh of smashpOp was chosen as the "Tech Geek" Agent. The other two agents were "Action addict" Agent Fay Hokulani, and "Car Freak" agent self-identified petrol head Harvinder Singh of Driven.

The new Ford Fiesta was indeed a head turner, especially the brightly coloured models which went on display during the launch. Stylish looks, impressive smart and safe technologies, fuel efficiency, performance and quality were to be expected from this car. Starting from an introductory price of RM86,988, it was a blend of a connected world and an enjoyable driving experience.

Leveraging on the mood-boosting effects of sophisticated and vibrant colour choices, the five-door sport variant comes in Celestial Blue, Arctic White, Metropolitan Grey, True Red and Chili Orange. The four-door sedan variant comes in True Red, Arctic White, Highlight Silver and Metropolitan Grey. The front grille had an interesting look to it, dominated by a trapezoidal front grille; a signature of Ford's new global family.

At the back, the new Ford Fiesta's tail lamps were given more detail to match the head lamps. On the five-door hatchback, a new rear spoiler enhances the car's sporty attitude. You have to see it in the flesh to really appreciate the new accents and styling of the Ford Fiesta.

Powered by the global 1.5 litre twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) four cylinder petrol engine, the new Ford Fiesta delivers up to 82 kW (112 PS) of power at 6300 rpm and peak torque of 140Nm at 4400 rpm. An interesting note would be the fact that Ford is now offering a five-year warranty or a 200,000 km bumper-to-bumper new vehicle warranty for the new Fiesta. The five-year warrnty combined with Ford's Extended Service Plan (ESP) is designed to help Ford customers cut costs while increasing the resale value of their vehicles.
