Fast And Furious 6 (2013) Movie Review

So I realize I haven't had the time to catch many movies lately, but there's this movie which I told myself I had to watch it in the cinemas. Being a fan of fast cars, I've been following this movie franchise since the first Fast And Furious series. The other day, I caught their latest installment of the series, Fast And Furious 6, and decided to do a short writeup on my take of it.

Just like any other Fast And Furious movies, the main cast consisted of Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel)'s "family". Picking up where the last installment left off, the movie kicks off with Dom being coerced back into active action after finding out his old girlfriend Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) may just be alive. I liked the part where each member were called back from their retirement "holiday", as we got to see how each of the members spent their million dollar earnings from the past heist.

Directed by Justin Lin, who has overseen the series since part three, Fast and Furious 6 sees the gang summoned to London by special agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), who really had the muscles to pull a face-off agaisnt Vin Diesel.

The movie settings were primarily in London, hence we got to see the racing scene on the streets of London, with the accent and all. This time around their enemy was this gang of thieves led by former SAS soldier Owen Shaw (Luke Evans). Very similar to Dom's family, Owen had his own team, and a bunch of very high tech vehicular warfare at his disposal, ranging from super cars to tanks. Unlike Dom's family however, Owen did not uphold the family loyalty principles, and has a principle of replacing his team members should they fail.

One thing led to another, and we start seeing car chase after car chase, with the same plot of good versus evil. This time around, thrown into the equation was Lett, Dom's ex girlfriend who lost her memory after the last encounter and had inadvertently joined Owen Shaw's gang. So there we have a small side plot where Dom tries to regain her back into the family. I liked the way he said it, "You don't turn your back on family, even when they do"

The stunts and car chase scenes caused mayhem on the streets of London, which I can imagine how many vehicles were destroyed in the process. It was all action, which kind of reminds me of movies along the line of "Mission Impossible" rather than the Fast and Furious genre. Don't get me wrong, I like the action, but the focus on fast and awesome cars, and their love for it were just not there in Fast and Furious 6. Heck, I did not even feel anything when the cars get destroyed, because there was simply no attachment to the cars in this movie.

Overall, Fast and Furious 6 was a good action movie, one which could have been perfect to me if they had focused more on the cars like the previous installments. Now it's all action action and more action. My guess is the big budget given have all been used up to blow up cars. I'll give it my personal rating of 6.5/10. Now to dig out the past Fast and Furious movies to enjoy beautiful fast cars again.
