Ploy @ Clearwater Damansara Heights

Aptly named PLOY which literally means "gem" in Thai, this gem of a restaurant located in Damansara Heights at the modern and sleek office building Clearwater. Ploy @ Clearwater serves cuisine inspired by the Japanese and Chinese culture. I was invited to try out some of their mouthwatering dishes a couple of months back, so here's my take on the place.

It was my first time dining over at the rather new establishment, and I was mighty impressed with the decor and settings of the place. Ploy does exude a certain classiness with tables and chairs made from wood, strategically placed for diners to enjoy the view outside. Arriving at the restaurant just in time for dinner, do check out what we had that evening below.

#1 Truffled Hamachi - RM55
#1 Truffled Hamachi - RM55

We kicked off the evening with some rather exotic tasting Truffled Hamachi. Sashimi doused in yuzu truffle sauce, this was indeed a fresh dish. The truffle brought out the unique taste while adding some sweetness to the fresh raw salmon. I tried one, and for someone who does not really fancy raw food, it was actually okay for my palette.

#2 Spicy Miso Soup - RM30

Fancy having some soup as appetizer before the main dishes? Then by all means do try out Ploy's Spicy Miso Soup. Served with fresh loster meat in Japanese Inaka Miso Soup with white radish, mirin and bonita flakes, that explained the price of this soupy delight.

#3 Crispy Fish Basket - RM35
#3 Crispy Fish Basket - RM35

As a person that loves fried stuff, coupled with lots of spices, the Crispy Fish Basket served that evening was my favourite dish. Fillets of deep fried crispy sole were served in an equally crispy fish basket seasoned in Thai Spices. First you have to enjoy the crispy fish fillets, then go for the crispy fish below it.

Deep fried to perfection, the taste was spicy, with a lot of taste to it. Taken on its own, it might get a tad too salty. What excites me was the fact the whole fish basket could be eaten, bones and all, as it's all too crispy!

Spaghetti Corn Beef - RM21
#4 Spaghetti Corn Beef - RM21

Who would have thought adding Corn Beef into a bowl of spaghetti would taste so good? Another one of the crowd favourites at Ploy would be this Spaghetti Corn Beef dish. I was told office workers from the upper floors actually came to Ploy just to order this dish to take away. The dish was essentially Brazilian corn beef flavored with olive oil and chili olio style. Personally I loved this dish for its meaty flavours. Again it might get too salty for some.

 Torched Sunrise Tuna - RM35

A unique dish, the torched sunrise Tuna was served in this sunflower shape, before being torched and served and rolled akin to a popiah. Served with the akami tuna, sushi rice, flying fish roe and their signature sauces, the tuna was seared to bring out its flavour before being wrapped like what you see below.

Served with fragrant seaweed, the seared tuna really did go well with the fish roe and sushi rice. Crunchy and tasty, one serving could be shared by up to three diners as there were lots of tuna to go around.

Mussel lovers, this dish is for you. Not so much for me as I'm not too keen on mussels, but the presentation did look good. Served in a boiling hot pot cooked with coconut juice, you know it will be good. The Mussel Mania uses fresh Australian mussels, infused with Thai herbs, basil and mint leaf.

#7 Abalone Somen
#7 Abalone Somen - RM55

Another dish which I do not quite fancy, probably because it was served cold, the Abalone Somen was a unique dish to me. The somen is served cold, topped with abalone and truffle sauce. Expensive ingredients, which make up a rather nice dish, if you like cold somen.

 Emperor Bun - RM25
#8 Emperor Bun - RM25

We ended our meal with this very "green" bun, called the Emperor Bun. Wonderfully seasoned Australian Minced Sirloin Patty was served sandwiched in between the Chinese Style Man Tau Buns, with shiso leaves and the Japanese tiugan sauce. I wasn't too keen on the shiso leaves, but simply love the tender and juicy sirloin patty. So the next time you are around Damansara Heights, do drop by Ploy @ Clearwater.
