Pencarian Chef Selebriti 2 Semi Finals @ Aeon Bukit Tinggi Klang

Just last Saturday, I had the opportunity to catch a cooking competition by hopefuls at the Chef Selebriti 2 Semi Finals over at Aeon Bukit Tinggi Klang. A total of twenty hopefuls competed in the semi finals that day to fight for the top 3 finals spots of the "Chef Selebriti 2 Search by BH and PETRONAS"

Time: 10am start
Venue: AEON Bukit Tinggi Klang

This was yet another new experience for me, as I'm always intrigued on how organizers actually manage to hold a cooking competition in the middle of the shopping mall without access to running water and all. Jointly organized by BH and PETRONAS, the finals would be held at Piazza E@Curve this 15th December 2012.

A brief fact on this competition, before our 20 hopefuls got to the semi finals, they were actually picked through 100 entries from the Individual Category and 50 entries from the Professional Category. There was a workshop held at Le Cordon Bleu, Sunway International College back on 27th November 2012 to expose all the participants to the right way of cooking.

I don't always get the chance to meet someone I used to watch on TV nearly all the time when younger, Datuk Chef Wan does know how to articulate and explain passionately on his love and what the Chef Selebrity 2 competition is all about. In fact, his mere presence really cheered up both the participants and the public.

The Chef Selebriti 2 Semi Final was graced by Berita Harian Executive Article Producer, Mr Zainor Said, and General Manager of the Liquefied  Petroleum Gas (LPG) of PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad, Puan Nik Faizanira Nik Affandi. Without much fanfare, the competition began with the Individual Category participants going first.

The format for the individual Category of Chef Selebriti 2 Search by BH and PETRONAS was such that the participant is allowed to bring a kitchen helper during the competition. All the ingredients were brought to the venue by the participants themselves. Various recipes were displayed out to cook, following the theme given.

As for the Professional Category, things got way harder as then the rules have changed. The cooks were not allowed to bring a kitchen helper, and instead of bringing their own ingredients, everything is prepared by the organizers so as to catch them off-guard and hoping for an impromptu dish. I did not however managed to stay until the later part of the competition, so all the photos below are folks from the Individual Category.

As points were awarded too for cleanliness during the cooking process, I think this had to be the cleanest and neatest "kitchen" I've seen in a awhile. It was like a performance for the audience, to showcase their food and how its being prepared.

Three winners from this round for both the Individual Category and the Professional Category will compete for a prize money for RM10000 and a trophy. The Champion for the professional category will win an invite to write for the cooking column in BH Family for the 6 months. For fame, for glory, here's wishing all the participants the best of luck and may the best cook win!
