Hard Rock Hotel Penang 3rd Anniversary Pool Party
Hard Rock Hotel Penang turns three this year, and a 3rd Anniversary Pool Party was held tonight, with artistes Mizz Nina, DJ Roxy June and the Aseana Percussion Unit providing the entertainment. With tickets sales from Groupon, as well as "at the door" sales, the crowd came in droves as the night progressed on, which I suspect was mainly to catch Mizz Nina in action.

The crowd enjoying themselves, moving to the music |
Kicking off the party at 8pm, the crowd slowly trickled in, as Aseana Percussion Unit came to the stage to perform. The unique sounds and rhythms of different types of drums and percussion helped warm up the atmosphere. The group was invited recently to perform at the prestigious Ranforest World Music Festival which is held annually in Kuching, Sarawak as well as various events and festivals such as The Sunrise Jazz Festival and The Penang Jazz Festival.

It wasn't until 9pm that the music began to really take effect with the electronic and booming bass music waking up the crowd. That was when DJ Roxy June, the talented female DJ from Thailand took to the stage. It was all Tech-house, techno, progressive and electro music from then on. The ravers from the crowd really lapped it all up, with fist pumping and whatnot.
DJ Roxy June spinning some really cool tunes |
Starting out at the club circuit in Bangkok, DJ Roxy June has come a long way with numerous awards and titles under her. She's the first and only Lady DJ in CLub 'Flix' RCA, and the winner of Pioneer Pro DJ Lady Championship in 2010. On top of that, she's actually versatile enough to handle being a TV host for CH5 Thai TV program. Oh, plus she looks gorgeous.

It wasn't long before the main act that night, Mizz Nina and her entourage arrived at Hard Rock Hotel Penang to dish out a performance for everyone to enjoy. Now I've been to a couple of Mizz Nina's performances before and I must say, all her shows were really energetic, with really nice music. It's no wonder she has exploded into stardom.

Mizz Nina, a Malaysian singer-songwriter who performs songs in English and Malay, including Malaysian and international collaborations was a hit with the crowd that night. With the Teh Tarik Crew, she had two AIM nominations in 2002 and another two in 2004. In 2012, she released her first solo album, "What You Waiting For" collaborating with Colby O' Donis.
It was an electrifying performance by Mizz Nina |
Recently, Mizz Nina teamed up with American rapper Flo Rida with "Take Over", which was filmed in Miami, hitting 1.5million views on YouTube as of today. How's that for being awesome. Of course, I was there to soak in the atmosphere, and experience how partying at Hard Rock Hotel Penang was all about. It was pretty cool, where the people were partying hard without being rowdy.

It was rather unfortunate that my friends could not make it for the party, hence I had to actually chill and rock along with the Hard Rock staffs. It was all good though, as I did enjoy myself listening and grooving to the various songs and music that Aseana Percussion Unit, Mizz Nina and DJ Roxy June dished out for us. Happy 3rd birthday to Hard Rock Hotel Penang, rock on, and may the party never end!
