The World's Best Sandwich Live Demo One Utama
Fancy trying out a sandwich, not just any sandwich but one which can be deemed as the world's best sandwich. This may come off as sounding like a marketing gimmick, but mind you, Darren Chin from Malaysia did our country proud when he won the 9th Delifrance Sandwich World Cup held in Paris earlier this year. The Dave's Deli's founder's son made a winning char siew (pork)-based sandwich and won over the other French contestants.

Invited by Tony, it was a rather well spent Sunday afternoon sitting there watching the two chefs, Darren Chin and Hubert Ly from France showcase their skills in sandwich and pastries making. The demonstration was divided into two sections, the first showcasing Darren making the world's best sandwich, Lamb Loin and the Gargouillou of young vegetables.

World Best Sandwich (Vietnamese-French inspired banh-mi sandwich) |
Sitting through the live cooking demonstration, and finally being able to taste the sandwiches, lamb loins and the vegetables was a pretty good experience. I liked the lamb loin a lot, while the sandwich was good, just not the best I have tasted. The ingredients inside the sandwich gave out a rather fragrant porkish taste, but the two halves of the sandwich was a tad too hard to chew.
French chef Hubert Ly |
Up next was French chef Hubert Ly, Darren's friend from Le Cordon Bleu Paris, who showcased his Extremet "Agrums", Passion Fruit Macaroon, and Financier Classic French Tea Cake. It was sweet pastries all the way from there forth. I was rather surprised to find out he's only 21, and French.

Being a fan of all things sweet, I loved all of Hubert Ly's creations. For someone who doesn't get to try pastries that often, I was happy to be able to sample these delectable French pastries. After the live demonstration, the audience were treated to sample all the food prepared by Darren Chin and Hubert Ly inside Dave's Bar & Bistro.

Delicious French Pastries |
Dave's Bistro Bar & Grill had a really unique way of treating us to the food. Everything was laid out on this round table, and we literally ate off the table top. The first thing that crossed my mind at that point of time was, "I really hope the table's clean". I'm pretty sure they have cleaned the table thoroughly first though. It was truly an experience, to have good food straight from the table into the mouth.
"Both the chefs will also be having an exclusive one-time-only gala dinner themed "A French Affair" at Dave's Bistro, Bar & Grill (One Utama) tomorrow (21 April 2012) for RM250 per person. You will get to enjoy Darren's Lamb Loin, Hubert's Passion Fruit Macaroon, and many more other sensational French dishes cooked by them. Please call 03-7725 4017 to enquire or make reservations, if it's not already fully reserved"
