Hadramawt Restaurant Chulan Square
Hadramawt Restaurant, located in Chulan Square in the vicinity of Jalan Raja Chulan and Pavilion KL, is this rather exquisite restaurant serving Yemeni and Arabic food. The last time I tried something unique like this was when I had some Lebanese food a couple of months back. With a tagline that reads "Serving you the best Yemeni and Arabic food in Klang Valley", one couldn't go wrong in picking this restaurant.

Comfortable ambience |

Nice decor, with big tables and comfortable seats |
Upon entering Hadramawt Restaurant, I was relieved that there weren't any strong incense smell, nor any strong odour of any sort. In fact the restaurant had a rather pleasant smell, with classy furniture and ambience. We even had some greenery on the 2nd floor of the restaurant where patrons could dine comfortably while looking out on the streets below.
The restaurant menu |
Hadramawt Restaurant prides itself for serving authentic Yemeni culinary style cuisines where one could indulge in the vast varieties of Yemeni dishes. We had a restaurant set in a modern setting infused with traditional Arabic ambience, which kind of made me think of "Aladdin" for a fleeting moment. It wasn't long before our food was prepared and served from the really friendly waiters there. Check below on what we had that night.
#1 Arabic Salad - RM10 |
#2 Mixed Vegetable Soup - RM12 |
The Arabic salad and mixed vegetable soup wasn't really very unique, and was just an opener for the main dishes to come next. Usually I'll skip the appetizers, but since it was served I tried these two appetizers, and they weren't too bad.
#3 Lamb Kabsa - RM19 |
#4 Chicken Kabsa - RM19 |
"Kabsa is a family of rice dishes that are served mostly in Saudi Arabia — where it is commonly regarded as a national dish — and the other Arab states of the Persian Gulf. Kabsa, though, is believed to be indigenous to Yemen. These dishes are mainly made from a mixture of spices, rice (usually long-grain basmati), meat and vegetables. There are many kinds of kabsa and each kind has a uniqueness about it. "
The Lamb and Chicken Kabsa are Hadramawt Restaurant's signature dishes, and I would say they were rather delicious. The lamb was cooked just right, soft and without the strong lamb taste which normally comes off too strong for my tastebuds. The rice itself was really fragrant from all the spices being added into the dish.
#5 Sheesh Tawooq (Chicken)- RM22 |
#6 Lamb Kebab Set - RM22 |
#7 Half a grilled chicken |
After the hearty main course dishes of Kabsas, grilled chicken and kebabs, we ended with some desserts brought out by the waiters.
#8 Some Chicken and Lamb Samosas |
#9 A really sweet crispy dessert from Hadramawt |
#10 Our "free flow" of Iced Lemon Tea - RM16 |
Overall it's a rather filling meal, no complains about the taste as each of the dishes were meticulously spiced and prepared the traditional Yemeni way. Unique and tasty, that should best describe my dining experience at Hadramawt Restaurant. Coupled with the fact that the ambience is really nice, I would think this place is suited for everyone, whether you're a couple looking for a private dining spot, or a family looking for a hearty meal.
