Last night, I had the opportunity to catch this movie Conan The Barbarian over at GSC Gurney Plaza in Penang. It wasn't a planned activity as I had these vouchers for another movie, but upon entering the cinema I figured Conan The Barbarian would be a better watch. I'm a sucker for violent, brutal and gory movies, and I heard initial reviews about how violent this movie is.
Conan The Barbarian The Movie
Conan The Barbarian, the mere mention of the title got me thinking of savage barbarians swinging clubs and swords around beating everything and everyone into a pulp of bloody mess. I wasn't very far off, as the movie had our hero Conan (Jason Momoa) going from one place to another killing all his enemies off rather violently.
The movie kicks off showing Conan as a baby being raised in the battlefields, then goes on to show him as a young child gaining all the savage war skills from his father Corin (Ron Perlman). Even as a child, young Conan (Leo Howard) already exhibits violent behaviour coupled with good killing skills. It is not until his father gets killed in front of his eyes by the villain Khalar Zym (Stephen Lang) and his whole village people slaughtered that we see young Conan raise the heavy sword shouting revenge. Forgive me, but I found that scene of young Conan raising the big sword shouting really corny, but that's just me.
Conan's Father Corin in the battlefields
The plot paper thin, with each scene being as predictable as the last, but I guess we all go for these movies to see the action and gore. Conan definately gave his fair share of gore, with images of blood splattering everywhere, bodies being ripped apart and countless body count still fresh in my memory.
Khalar Zym and his equally evil daughter Marique
Throughout the movie we see Conan searching high and low for Khalar Zym which he eventually found chasing after the elusive "pure blood" lady Tamara (Rachel Nichols). Tamara is being hunted by Khalar Zym for her blood which will eventually give him all the power of the worlds. Here we see dark magic come into play as well.

So there you have it, Conan The Barbarian does not come off as a memorable movie, but one that does it's job in the blood bath department. There were so many scenes being censored off in the cinema version, however what really bugged me was that they could show a scene of Conan's really perfect buttocks and not of the ladies. I was really disturbed by Conan's buttocks I tell you. The film spans 2 hours, and feels rushed because it seems the scenes jumps from one to another too quickly without any development. I would rate this movie a 4/10, watch it without a high expectation and you'll be satisfied with the action scenes. I leave you with the trailer of Conan The Barbarian.
I was at the Toyota Vios launch event back in 2013 when they launched their 3rd gen look in Malaysia, and I must say it wow'ed a lot of folks with its looks. ( All New Toyota Vios Launched In Malaysia ). It was rather cool then that last week I was given the latest Toyota Vios 1.5 TRD Sportivo to experience and review here in this space of mine on the web. Toyota Vios has always been a rather popular car in Malaysia, being an essential part of youth pop culture in Malaysia, with looks that will turn heads. Toyota Vios 1.5 TRD Sportivo Review
