Government Declared Public Holiday On 31st December 2010

It was all over the news, radio, facebook, twitter, foursquare, and all social networking sites. Malaysia won the AFF (Asian Football Federation) Suzuki Cup 2010 Finals !

The euphoria began 2 nights ago on the 26th December when Malaysia played host to Indonesia in the Finals Leg 1 held at Bukit Jalil Stadium Kuala Lumpur. Thousands of fans were there, and with the home ground support, Malaysia won with a convincing scoreline of 3-0. Fast forward 2 days, and last night at the 2nd leg of AFF Suzuki Cup Finals, with every Malaysian cheering their national team, Malaysia took the cup for the first time ever. Even though Indonesian won the 2nd leg with a score of 2-1, but it was not enough to overcome the final combined score of 4-2 in favor of Malaysia.

2nd Leg - Malaysia 1 Indonesia 2

Last night, following the win and to celebrate Malaysia's first ever victory in the AFF Suzuki Cup Championship, our Prime Minister declared Friday 31st December 2010 as a public holiday. This news was something expected and hoped for, but there was no confirmation until today.

Najib Declares Friday A Holiday

The office was abuzz with this news and everyone was wondering when the company will send out the official memo to declare tomorrow a holiday. Well, at around after lunch time today, the memo was out, and I embraced the news happily. Tomorrow will be a holiday for the company, meaning I will get to have a good rest at home before the countdown to the new year!
