It's All FUN With The All-New Volkswagen Tiguan

I've gotten my grubby hands on the stylish new SUV from Volkswagen, the Tiguan 1.4 TSI recently, which was a treat for myself and the family. We took it for a road trip all the way to Sekinchan and back, a fun trip indeed. It's a really spacious vehicle, and well thought out in all aspects, from the design to its functionality. Read on below for my thoughts on it.

The New Volkswagen Tiguan 1.4TSI Does Look Good

Exterior wise, the new Volkswagen Tiguan looks every bit as good as it looks inside. As to be expected from a German manufacturer, the outlook is well built, where you actually feel that the body of the car is made from one solid piece rather than being fragile and brittle. I do like the outlook of the car, which comes in five colours - pure white, deep black, atlantic blue, tungsten silver and Indium Grey. Mine's in Atlantic Blue colour and it was indeed pleasing to the eye.

The design is distinctly Volkswagen, you will not miss the large VW logo in the front and back of the car. Compared to the previous generation of Tiguan, the new one is longer, wider and lower in height. This makes for a rather nice exterior, without being too high to climb in. Even the Mrs and the mother had no trouble getting in and out of the car. Have a look at some shots that I took of the LED headlights, rear LED tail lamps and more below.

The car comes fitted with these 'Kingston' 18 inch alloy rims. Despite its size, it does not feel out of place at all on the Tiguan. The front LED headlights are adaptive, that it actually adjusts to the height of the vehicle compared to the road. Lovely rear LED tail lamps as well, which is synonymous to all Volkswagen cars.

What's awesome? The Active Info Display of course!

I was awe-struck and excited over the really cool infotainment system inside the Volkswagen Tiguan. Gone is the traditional instrumentation panel, to be replaced by an interactive and customisable Active Info Display system.

One of a kind, the navigation GPS can be shown on the Active Info Display system

The completely digital instrument cluster comes with a 12.3" full colour high resolution thin-film-transistor (TFT) screen display. You no longer have to tilt your head to see the GPS, instead you can just set it to show the navigation on screen directly in front of you. Choose from various functions to be shown there, from classic, speed and gear, consumption and range, efficiency, navigation and offroad.

Interior, I'm liking it

For families with little children, the all new Tiguan comes with anti-pinch power windows and ISOFIX anchorage point for child seats. Inside, we have these comfortable 'Vienna' leather seat, complete with adjustable armrest with rear aircon vents, and the awesome 3-zone temperature control. Yes, that's new to me, the fact that my co-driver by my side could set her aircond vent to a different temperature than mine is simply superb.

My experience driving the Volkswagen Tiguan to Sekinchan

With a full tank of petrol, we were all set for a day trip all the way to the paddy fields and seafood paradise of Sekinchan. It was great that there's this multiple zone aircond, so everyone in the car from the kids to the mum could have their own comfortable temperature. The 60km or so distance to Sekinchan was a fun one. I'm loving the 6-speed turbocharged TSI engine, with so much torgue it was a breeze navigating the highways.

Oh did I mention the Volkswagen Tiguan comes with KESSY keyless entry system, making it so easy for me to start the car and drive. The multi function steering wheel comes with paddle shifters as well. Auto dimming rear view mirror, and park assist helped a lot during our road trip across states.

Boot space? It's BIG!

When we needed the space, it's there!
When we needed the space, it's there!

615 litres of trunk space, pop up the boot and you'll get a whole lot of space for everything you need to carry in the Volkswagen Tiguan. In fact, we were in the midst of moving some big items, and the folding back seats were truly remarkable in giving us more space. When lowered, we had up to 1655 litres of boot space in a snap. Superb!

Overall it was a rather good experience over last weekend with the all-new Tiguan. Locally assembled in Pekan, the vehicle is priced at RM148,990 for the Comfortline and RM168,990 for the Highline. It comes with 5 years manufacturer's warranty and 5 years roadside assistance for peace of mind. For more information, do check out their official website at www.volkswagen.com.my
