Goodyear Eagle F1 Directional 5 Tyre - The Ride's New Shoes

What "shoes" are on on your ride? Recently my car tyres were in dire need of change, with me running it to near baldness for many years. I've heard good things about the Goodyear Eagle F1 Directional 5 from my fellow car club buddies, which is developed to match the grip, handling and comfort of current ultra high performance tyres, while competing with the mid-segment market in price. How's that for a good value-for-money good grip and handling tyres?

About the Goodyear Eagle F1 Directional 5 Tyre

A quick search on the internet kept me abreast on the technology involved. The Goodyear Eagle F1 Directional 5 incorporates SportGrip Technology, made with a combination of a solid center line rib and continuous shoulder rib with special polymers and race inspired compound promising precise handling and outstanding grip on various surfaces.

I got it mounted a couple of months back, clocking in roughly 3000 km on it already as of today. I do travel extensively in my car, hence I am looking for a tyre which is both safe, solid and can at least last a half year or so. Designed to be a car enthusiast-friendly tyre in performance, price and physique, my first impression upon seeing the tyres were that it looks pretty nice, with chunky thread pattern, retro sidewall branding, and have that iconic F1 V Thread.

Until I get more kilometres on the new rubber, let's go with what Goodyear has to say on the tyre shall we? According to Goodyear, the Directional 5 tyre is made for demanding driving enthusiasts who demand the best for their tuned performance cars. The directional design provides dynamic look to the tyre while complementing the appearance of the aftermarket wheel. Directional tread design also provide maximized water dispersion for optimum performance on wet roads.

"Goodyear's internal performance tests showed the Eagle F1 Directional 5 outperforms its multi-awarded predecessor in handling and braking on wet and dry surfaces, with a marked improvement in wet braking performance."

The new Directional 5 tyre is also said to feature smoother and quieter ride with its closed shoulder design to reduce noise emissions, even when compared to it's F1 GSD3 predecessor. It's optimized cavity shape also provide a squarer footprint, distributing pressure evenly resulting in a more even tyre wear.

All done, mounted, balancing and alignment done, my initial drive with the Goodyear Eagle F1 Directional 5 Tyre has been a pretty good one. It is pretty stable, and I was quite impressed with the quietness of the ride. My previous tyre was the Michelin Primacy series, hence I had a pretty high expectation when it comes to comfort and noise level. Driving this tyre in the rain has been pretty good as well, no hydroplaning nor skidding, confidence all the way. Watch out with my subsequent review of this tyre after I've worn it in a little bit more!
