How Does Samsung Pay Work With Your Maybank Card?

Samsung Pay uses a new proprietary technology called Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) and Near Field Communication (NFC) to make mobile payments more accessible to both merchants and consumers. The tech behind it? It functions using the NFC chip found in smartphones, and includes Samsung’s proprietary technology that allows it to work with modern magnetic swipe card readers as well.

My experience with Samsung Pay

Samsung Pay is a pre-installed app. Since I successfully registered as a Beta Tester as a Maybank Cardmember, the Samsung Pay icon appeared once I upgraded my OS to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. There is no need to download the Samsung Pay app from the Play Store.

I immediately registered my Maybank Visa Cards into the app and started paying with Samsung Pay.

To make payments, just swipe up on the home screen and authenticate using your fingerprint or PIN number. After that, just tap your phone to proceed with payment. For older terminals, you’ll need to tap the back of your phone on the side of the card reader.
