PLOY Publika - Ushering In The New Year With The Ploy-sperity Yee Sang

Just last week, I've had a chance to drop by PLOY's new outlet in Publika, in time for their unveiling of the Ploy-sperity Yee Sang. We got to try their signature dishes too, which were pretty cool too, considering the fact that PLOY is known for their creativity in creating gastronomic indulgence. Anyway let's get started shall we.

Ploy, which serves up modern Thai and Japanese fusion favorites, debuts its original yee sang creation for the Lunar New Year: the Ploy-sperity Yee Sang! And for another Ploy-ful twist, there will be an Instagram contest to celebrate the festive menu. More will be revealed at the end of this post with regards to the contest.

Comprising of 18 tantalizing ingredients with significant cultural meaning, the Ploy-sperity Yee Sang is a vibrant feast for the senses. Topped with a crispy tuille layer adorned with the ‘Monkey’ symbol in Mandarin, made from ground Chinese spices including star anise, cloves, cinnamon and Sichuan peppercorns.

Salmon, scallops: ever-flowing abundance
Pomelo, oranges, pear, mango: sweetness in luck and prosperity
Shredded beetroot, radish, cucumber, seaweed salad: eternal youth and longevity Pickled ginger: vitality
Nuts and golden pillows: a household filled with gold and silver
Sesame seeds: flourishing business
Red and green crackers: vibrant abundance
Powders: attract more money
Passion fruit and yuzu sauce: encouraging the flow of money from all directions

The Ploy-sperity Yee Sang is readily available at both Ploy outlets (Publika Shopping Gallery and Work@Clearwater in Damansara Heights) until 22 February, priced at RM118++ (2-4 pax) and RM168++ (6-8 pax).

Served with fragrant seaweed, the seared tuna really did go well with the fish roe and sushi rice. Crunchy and tasty, one serving of PLOY's Torched Sunrise Tuna could be shared by up to three diners as there were lots of tuna to go around.

See the flames?

Why flaming? The Flaming Red Fish Curry is served in a spectacular fashion where the waiter actually heated up some Scotch whiskey in a glass before pouring it on the dish, setting it alight. You literally see blue flames shooting up.

Tender Honey Pepper Wings
Tender Honey Pepper Wings

Chicken wings with a twist, doused in honey-based soy sauce with sesame seed, it is very well marinated. I was told the chicken wings were soaked in homemade broth for a full day for the flavour to seep deep inside. This tender honey pepper wings, really good stuff.

Seared Wagyu

Did someone mention wagyu? My weakness, beautiful sweet tasting seared wagyu was served that evening.  Lightly seared to perfection, it was indeed juicy and tender, with awesome seasoning of orange ponzu, chili miso and chopped crispy garlic. As with any other dishes from PLOY, they add some unique flavours to the usual fare.

Emperor Bun
Emperor Bun

Another favourite of mine at PLOY, the Emperor Bun. Wonderfully seasoned Australian Minced Sirloin Patty was served sandwiched in between the Chinese Style Man Tau Buns, with shiso leaves and the Japanese tiugan sauce. I wasn't too keen on the shiso leaves, but simply love the tender and juicy sirloin patty.

Cracked Coconut dessert

We ended the meal with one of the best looking dessert I've had in a while. We were presented with Cracked Coconut dessert, a chilled treat of coconut sorbet with white chocolate shells and mixed fruits. It was artistically presented, everything from the 'sand' to the sea shells, and even the coconut husk is edible, made from chocolates.
